rschilla -> Problem With Downloading Updates (6/17/2008 8:50:23 PM)

In the last five minutes I've tried to download the upgrades for John Tiller's Campaign Series and Napoleon In Italy. In both cases, the connection simply times out. Is there something else I should be doing or is it "one of those things?"

(I can see a heavy traffic load for Campaign Series as it is a new upgrade and a huge file...but NII is small and several months old.)

I just tried both downloads and they seem to be working OK could have been a temporary glitch try it again and let me know if it is still giving you problems.

Now it is actually working worse.  I'm not even getting to the "open" or "save" window.  It just starts to open and then closes.

I'm going to try a re-start....the Bill Gates solution to every problem!

Stand by!

That didn't help. Campaign Series does nothing..... NII takes me to a sign in for an FTP server and refuses to accept my password.

Just to make sure it isn't me, I went to another site and started a download which worked just fine.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Well lets see if we can track down what is happening. Are you trying to access the downloads from the members side or from the game page?

The members' area. As far as I can see the John Tiller upgrade is only listed there.

I've tried both ways for NII and neither worked.

OK that helps, do you have anything that might block downloading from a site? IE has that at times annoying little yellow bar that says in a nutshell "XXXX site is trying to download XXXX onto your comuputer" or your firewall perhaps.

Just trying to rule things out.

I actually use ACE Explorer.... I don't think that it is much different but you've given me an idea. I will try IE and see what happens.

BRB.

Nope. Even with IE it simply brings me to an FTP server sign-in box and then doesn't like the sign-in data.

I just went over to Gamers.net and dowloaded a Rising Sun scenario with no problem.  Something is blocking me from getting to your upgrade files.

Still times out without making a connection.

Okay. You can add this solution to the Tech Support Data Base.

After multi-experimenting I re-booted my router and the file downloaded.

Sheeesh! I hate computers.
