IMHO:

Congratulations on one of the most bug free, solid, challenging releases in the history of turn based strategy. [8D]

The ratio of how to play, compared to bug posts, in this forum is outstanding. [:)]

Plus, the "humbled, humbled" thread speaks for itself. [:D]

Way to go Gary, developers, play testers, et al. [&o]

JAMiAM -> RE: Congratulations! (6/19/2008 6:52:08 PM)

Indeed! A job well done.

GShock -> RE: Congratulations! (6/19/2008 6:53:45 PM)

This game is easily one whose most revolutionary concepts will keep players happy for long time. It is solid but not bugfree, no game is. The learning curve is balanced...you will see them coming once they all learn...then there'll be the phase on the possible improvements (so called wishlist)...but don't worry....we're one step ahead of you! [8D]

tgb -> RE: Congratulations! (6/19/2008 8:38:13 PM)

I have all three Civil War games Matrix released in the last year-and-a-half, and this is by far my favorite. The Union A.I. is kicking my behind on Normal difficulty, and I know I still have a lot to learn, but it definitely has that one-more-turn addictiveness down.

PyleDriver -> RE: Congratulations! (6/19/2008 8:58:42 PM)

tgb, I agree. I have some 2500 hours in this game and I still play it, and my wife hasn't left me...lol... That means at $50.00 I would have paid 2 cents an hour, had I had to buy it. Not many things out there are that cheap or fun...

The biggest bug in the game so far is that I still can't beat the AI on normal settings [:D]

Which may be why there are so few requests for PBEM games.[:)] You're not alone.

That would be an interesting game...PBEM w/ two new players.

That comment sparks a question- How hard would it be to allow a PBEM player to post a PBEM turn and allow anyone to d/l and use replay to view it?

Great Job guys. This one will be on my hard drive for a long time.[:)]

Willburn -> RE: Congratulations! (6/20/2008 2:59:38 AM)

Yeah this game is great. I found the first games the ai kicked my butt (i was union) until i started to really care about training my militia into infantery and watching for spotted units vs attacking with artillery... but yeah the ai is very good in this game!

Bo Rearguard -> RE: Congratulations! (6/20/2008 3:37:23 AM)

Was curious...is this Gary Grigsby's and Co. first attempt at an ACW game? Very impressive if it is. [sm=happy0065.gif] Kudos!

Was wondering if the system would port well for an American Revolutionary War game someday. [;)]

Crimguy -> RE: Congratulations! (6/20/2008 4:42:15 AM)

I'm pretty hooked too. Not sure I consider it my favorite. I prefer some of the design decisions of AACW over this one (e.g. transports, recruitment/drafts/troop strengh), but I do enjoy this one a lot. I prefer the scouting/raiding of WBTS and the combat information is more useful. The one thing I am still getting a grip on is the AI, as Union, flying infantry all over the map. Sometimes I'll see 8-9 brigades shoot from Ohio, through PA, onto transports, down the Atlantic Coast, and gather on some island off South Carolina. Makes it feel "gamey."

oldspec4 -> RE: Congratulations! (6/20/2008 5:26:33 AM)

Well, I'm playing my second game as Confederate on normal and now turn is Nov. '64 with Lincoln losing the election.  My score is 900+ and Union in low 700's.   After the Union ran all over me the first couple of years, I set up defensively in Vicksburg, Jackson, and Meridian, MS., N,O., Mobile, Atlanta, and Richmond.  The Union w/ Grant in Mississippi has done nothing the past 18 months or so.  Sherman across from me in Atlanta has done nothing also.  The only real Union attack ( and defeat) for some time has been in Richmond w/ Pope against Lee.  I have pretty much stayed in my defensive position and let the Union lose the election.  I have used many of the tips in the forum re: gameplay but I'm far from being a good player.  Unless the Union has some big attacks planned soon, its over for the Blue.  Not sure what to make of the AI right now.

Joel Billings -> RE: Congratulations! (6/20/2008 6:04:53 AM)

This is Gary's first stab at a game set before the 20th Century. I worked on the SSI game No Greater Glory (published in 1991) which covered the entire Civil War and many other Civil War battle games.

Sounds like time to take on a live player in PBEM, then....[;)]

Or increase the AI difficulty setting...[;)] I'm just surprised that the AI wasn't more aggressive prior to the Lincoln election, particularly considering the Union attacks/advances earlier in the game.

Caltone -> RE: Congratulations! (6/21/2008 5:41:36 AM)

Hat's off to 2by3 and Matrix for a great job.  Very solid game with a good AI and it's fun to play, even though I'm losing [:D]
