JamesMason -> Two Questions - current game on website and where to get old one (6/24/2008 8:31:46 PM)

Hi - I'm new to these forums, but have played lots of Paradox games, and am a pretty regular user of their forums. I really like the downloadability aspect of gaming online, and especially these forums - I know I can always count on some really good people to help me through a problem. (With these complicated games, there is always a problem...)

Anyway, on the Matrix website is a Battle of Britain game that's available for download. Is that the new version of 12 O'Clock High- Bombing the Reich?, but just a version about the air-war prior to 1943? Is everyone here is waiting for the Eagle Day? Or is it something completely different? A little clarification would be great.

Also - some guy on ebay has the old version listed for $129 (PLUS you have to pay 7.99 for shipping!) Is that what it goes for? I remember playing this game on my old computer that was too slow to handle all the data crunching and it would hang up, or start crawling. I got rid of it, gave it away, or something. Bottom line, it's gone. Are there any people here willing to sell it to me at a more reasonable price? At $129 I am willing to wait until 2010 for the new version. But I would pay $20 or so to get it right now...

In any case, it's nice to be here and I look forward to getting to know some of you. My PhD program is winding down (Sociology, Oklahoma State) so I will have time to start playing more than I have recently.

Thanks in advance -

Jim Mason

Battle of Britain and 12 O'Clock high were/are the originals. Eagle Day is the new and improved version that will hopefully come out in my lifetime[;)]. ED will sorta combine the two earlier games into one package. They don't "connect" in that you have to play one OR the other.
Things have been oddly quiet here for a while... I hope that is a good thing[:D]. It sure would be nice to get some news, though[&o]

you find it sometimes for a much better price.
but be aware that there are several games that were called Battle of Britain.

The BoB we talk in this subforum is the ex Talonsoft BoB and BtR

Jim,

Greetings [8D]

The Battle of Britain Wings of Victory II that is available for download is not the one associated with Bombing the Reich or BTR as referred to on this forum. Although I do recommend it. I picked it up earlier this year and it is a great game. Lots of fun and well worth the cost.

Copies of 12 Oclock High, Bombing the Reich are rare to find but they are only worth (IMHO) $15-$20 at most plus shipping. I searched about 6 months before I found a copy on Ebay for $20. It is only the Bombing the Reich version, Battle of Britain is not included in the one I bought.

Being just one of the Gaming Community and not affiliated with Matrix Games I would highly recommend ANYTHING you may find here at the Matrix site. I have many of their games and many more of the original games and I have found the Matrix staff and other members of the community very helpful with either regardless if it is a Matrix product or not. If you do not own some of the Matrix games I would recommend checking them out. You will be pleased with any game in your area of interest. I have been participating with Matrix and the community via this board since its beginning and it has been the source of many interesting conversations about the games and what the game represent as well as a tremendous aid to my successes and enjoyment in these games.

If you are a fan of strategy and/or tactial gaming then you have "Hit the Mother Load" as it were my friend.

Welcome aboard and Enjoy!! [8D]

Later,
KayBay
