Ladmo -> Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/25/2008 3:39:25 AM)

Jason,

As I have come to understand it, modders will be able to have their platoon and weapons files encrypted. What is the desired procedure for doing this? Needless to say, I won't be sending anything along until 1.03 is official. I have a major mod I wish to start working on, but in the meantime I would like to go through some of the platoon files and give unique graphic id nos. I have a number of camouflage variants and where there are umpteen versions of, for instance, a Pz Mk IV in the TOE I would like to start putting together individual graphics for there (variety is the spice of battle!)

Will there be any difficulties about doing this...when the time comes?

Dumnorix -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/25/2008 12:17:50 PM)

I decoded all codes for my mod the JTCS meets PG3D an I will nevertheless not communicate that here to an broad public. It is not to be able to write stop everyone in the platoon and weapon files, also in main and movement!

The desired procedure will be either:

1. posting a zip file of the files you would like encrypted; they will be and reposted for you to download

or

2. Emailing me with a zip file of the files you would like encrypted; they will be mailed back.

The only real thing to keep in mind:

1. Future UPDATES will override your platoon files. Keep back ups or at least a list of graphic changes so you can re-implement them again after the UPDATE has been installed.

Other than that, the variety will be nice indeed!

Ladmo -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/26/2008 12:34:50 AM)

Jason,

Thank you very much. I will keep in mind the override situation. If I get this graphic thing implemented, would you have any interest at all in doing this for a future patch. I do a mean Sturmgeschutz with foliage camo! I think I also have a Panther with side skirting. I might have sent copies of these files to Flying Scotsman eons ago. I need to find the files first (my hard drive is a black hole in a tower case.)

Thanks again for a very modder friendly response. It is tremendously appreciated.

Absolutely, that would be brilliant and could be easily included in the 1.04 UPDATE.

"Well there's something you dont see everyday, Edgar..."

"Whats that, Chaucey?"

"A Panther with side skirting." *BURP!*

Was there such an animal, or was it just something on the drawing boards? From what I remember, and I am sure I am in error, only the STG III (G), and the Pz IV (H), had side skirting....as a commonly found unit. I am sure there were prototypes out there that may have had them but for general production....no.

lol....but i would love to see a photo of a panther with side skirts! [&o]

See (amongst others): Bruce Quarrie's World War 2 photo album number 5 'Panzers in North-West Europe', published by Patrick Stephens Ltd, Cambridge, CB3 8EL.

Here you can see quite a lot of Panther tanks with (remnants of) side skirts. E.g. page 20, 48, 49, 90, 92.

Sober again? [;)]

Ladmo -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/26/2008 10:19:06 PM)

Guys,

I have probably fifty megs, maybe twice that of artwork I have done over the last five years. I tried to get this going a while ago but my wife has cancer and I have serious health issues that leave me in a hospital bed about 45-60 days a year (not also in a row, thankfully.) I really would like to get all of this out there to you (thanks for your gracious offer of inclusion, Jason. You are a gent!) My problem is I don't do op.bits! Would anyone like to take a crack at that? Perhaps, if Jason has no objections, I could funnel this work with a description, to someone else who could do the bits, and Jason (if we might prevail upon you, kind sir,) could flip the graphic id number. In a short time we could have a lot of graphical flavor to add to the game. The main work is done already, but my health issues are holding me up on the rest.

Thanks Jason and Mike for the comments. Means alot. I have admired you both for years.
Would you like to see some of the other weird things I have, for instance...

A Panther protoype with a MkIV turrent
A foliaged King Tiger
Numerous German infantry camo schemes. (have lots of trouble with the DAK!)
Sherman 76 with sandbags on front
Plenty of winter infantry for Germans
German armor with some snow but no whitewashing
Various early war German armor with liberal dust coatings
Captured British truck with German camo paint
PzMkIV with side skirts missing (swiped by playful tommies no doubt)
Some German Artillery with foliage
British Infantry without shorts (in progress)
SS Mujos infantry and MG
A variant of the Tiger I with turret thrown a little forward - I know I saw this somewhere.

Anyway, a little run down for you of some of the stuff I have already made. I've spent years trying to get this stuff right. You may like some but not all. Let me know what you want to see, so you can decide if this is worth it. I will have to find it all first!

Thanks for the kind words.

I hate doing *.bit too, but would be happy to help out!

If you wished to zip them up in bundles and email them to me, I can see about parcelling them out and having the *.bits done for you.

I make the bit-graphic very quickly with corel Photo Paint 9 with the Indistinct mask (under effects) 10 unitpictures in one minute.
I have produce all 100 and 100 units of JTCS meets PG3D with this.

Hope I can help you

Any chance of posting screenshots on how to do this? This would make life SOOOOOOO much easier!!!

Thank you in advance!

Ladmo -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/27/2008 12:38:17 AM)

Jason,

Would be pleased to start bundling for email. I'll commence search for everything tonight. It goes without saying these are all adapted from other sources, and I found some I don't think I did. However, all of this artwork technically belongs to Matrix anyway, so I'm just sending it back home - to be put to good use.

I will bundle by weapons system type (all MkIvs, all Panthers, etc) and leave it to your fine judgment which should be assigned to what. I will send in dribs and drabs, so as not to choke the proverbial horse.

This is a very exciting development to me, as some of this stuff took enormous patience and work to complete. First airdrop in a day or two, if that is all right?

I leave you with a Sturmgerschutz with the works, hold the snow...note cargo on rear...

Warhorse -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/27/2008 1:35:55 AM)

Dumnorix, that's a very detailed how to, and thank you very much!! I never did much with the masks, could do .bit files fairly quick the way I did them, but this is awesome! Thanks man.

Mike

Borst50 -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/27/2008 5:15:19 AM)

[:D][:D][:D] I did say as a general production unit....meaning commomly found on the battlefield. I seem to also remember saying something about prototypes, and was sure I was wrong about something or other.....but ahhhh well...fgor the life of me cant remember what that was.

Borst50 -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/27/2008 5:17:07 AM)

sober? sober? whats that? [:D][:D][:D]

Ladmo -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/27/2008 6:45:30 PM)

Borst,

I don't recall suggesting the Panther with a sideskirt is a production model, but then neither is a MKIV with foliage camo. What I am trying to do is offer artwork alternatives to fill up all those duplicate slots and give a little flavor to our battlefields. Where possible, I hope to offer some historical camo alternatives, as the ambush pattern in the game was hardly universal (though very cool...) I have spent a great deal of time on some of these .bmps, almost as much as I would if I had been painting miniatures.

That said...Here is a camo variant for the Panther, hold the skirts, hold the mayo...

Borst50 -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/28/2008 2:18:57 AM)

[:D] I remember my minature painting days....wow...that was 24 years ago....15mm Napoleonics....now theres a lesson in frustration. I think I went cross eyed for a while. But this was in the days when thr figures were lead, not pweter like today.

Warhorse -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/28/2008 2:42:10 AM)

1/285th WW2 microarmor, got a nice collection, used to love painting them!! Played with them as 1:1 ASL rules about 5"=40 meters!

Mike

Borst50 -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/28/2008 5:09:22 AM)

Cooollll...I remember ads for the micro armour collection...but wasnt leaning that way back then, in the mid 80's was doing the napoleonic thing, and we started out by using the ACW ruleset, albeit, modified for napeonics....geez, I cant remember the game title.....but eventually, Avalon Hill, came out with a really good set of rules for napoleonics, and we....me and 3 buddies, used them exclusively. But this was back in the day when Penn State was a "professional" party school....and the girls worl those stupid little socks with their high heels....[:D][:D][:D]. Do you remember the Geohex system for minatures? It was just coming out then....but i wasnt about to pay 650 bicks for all the material i needed to set up a good large scale battle. sheesh!

Warhorse -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/28/2008 3:01:55 PM)

Yep, good stuff, even have Hungarian and Finn armor as well. I remember that geohex stuff, I ended up making my own terrain, trees, etc. Fun stuff, now I don't have the room to play with them.

Mike

Borst50 -> RE: Encrypting Platoon and Weapons Files (6/30/2008 4:18:58 AM)

yeah...we all ended up making our own terrain. We used felt.....push a couple of ping pong tables together, throw green felf over it for grass....cut brown felt for secondary roads...grwey felt for paved roads, blue for rivers and streams, some HO scale green rubber for shrubbery, yellow felt for corn fields....small twigs for trees, road gravel mixed with elmer's glue for stone walls....one enterprising individual ended up carving molds, 5 or 6 of them for hills, and we used clay and i had access to a kiln....baked em and painted em up, and finally 15mm painted houses for towns. we put a lot of effort into it and it worked, it was actually quite impressive. then I discovered girls....lol....and my then fiancee didnt want the house cluttered up with my games...or my low life friends.....sheesh....but it was a great 8 year run! woohoo!
