Popeye USN -> Surface engagement & bombardments (6/25/2008 5:40:10 PM)

Couple of questions/observations:
1. I know that hexes are 60x60 miles, but it seems that two opposing surface forces moving through the same hex might engage. I have tried numerous and it seems the program will not let it happen?

2. I find it difficult to keep a bombardment group at the target. Most times they bombard and run for homel. I found that setting the TF to retire, but have it follow another TF sometimes works...any thoughts?

1. 30 miles hexes and the game engine is set up to only look at ending hexes, not passing hexes. If 2 TFs end up in the same hex then combat can/will occur. If they just pass through the same hex, then the game engine does not check for contact.

2. Bombardment TFs usually use up most of their ammo ( depending on a number of factors ) and will try to retire back to their home port to rearm - expecially BBs with only 9 ammo points. patrol/do not retire should keep them there for a bit and also having them follow a TF that is staying in the hex will work. For invasions, have them follow the trasnport tf and they should bombard more than once. Useing CAs for this is usually better than BBs because they have more ammo points to expend.
