A tip for getting well dug in troops out of their hole without losing a ton of people:

Blast the living crap out of their defensive hexes with arty, then lift the barrage for a turn. Troops that are very suppressed cannot even fall back sometimes. When you lift the arty, often they will recover just enough to fall back out of those pesky sandbags, popping smoke to let you know they did it!

Good advice, Goblin!

A staggered incoming barrage is often more effective than the continuous pounding. Let the grunts get back on their feet and do it to 'em again. The reduced ammo usage is an added bonus.

Also, turning a tube or two Off conserves ammo and achieves nearly the same effect as firing all the tubes.

The large caliber guns affect adjacent hexes also. So there's substantial overlap of incoming fire in the impact area.

There's less to be gained from pounding the same hex 4 times as opposed to twice. After the first incoming rounds, the troops go to ground anyway.

Thanks Capt.Pixel !

Both for good word, and for idea about turning off a tube or two. Gonna try it.
