campekenobi -> The effect of losing your HQ... (4/1/2002 11:37:33 PM)

I never play w/ C&C on, but I've heard that even in with it off, your HQ guys can have an effect on your teams' morale as a whole.

1) Is that statement true?

2) I just wiped out the HQ guys from my enemy player :) , what kind of effect should I expect to see, other than one upset opponent?

thanks

Nice work they are pretty much screwed.

When you destroy your opponents HQ a large portion of his troops will turn French and decide to head towards the rear.

If he has an elite force say rangers, SS or Guards then he may recover but some of his some units will still flee.
In addition, he will have a much harder time rallying.

I hardly ever answer question (I am pretty new as well) so some of this may be wrong or others will have other info to add.
Hope this helps.

I agree; destroying an enemy HQ takes a major toll on their rallying ability. If you get the HQ versus the computer, and own all the victory hexes, thats all she wrote. Against a human opponent, the effect is slightly harder to measure, but the blow to morale and difficulty rallying can be nail you need to seal that pine box...

Cool, thank you both... It was rather sweet; He had them in a tank (don't know WHY) in a German advance against me (allies). One of my CREWMEN assaulted the tank, exposing the HQ guys who then fled... I just happened to have a little car (sorry, I don't remember technical names) w/ a machine gun, drove AROUND them (they were on a bridge) to the direction they were fleeing, and destroyed them. (hmmm I wonder if he reads this forum?)

Anyway, I don't mean to gloat, but it sure was fun.

Once most units are routed and morale break checks are being made, if the HQ has high experience/morale (not sure it one or both values are included in the check), it can prevent its force from being broken. The lower its experience/morale, the easier it is for its side to be broken. If the HQ has experience/morale over 120 its side will hardly ever break.

KG Erwin -> Leading from the front can be dangerous to your heath (4/2/2002 3:17:53 AM)

Well, I have to admit I tried to "do a Rommel" and lead from the front. Bad move on my part. My HQ was mounted in a Pz III, blundered into an enemy infantry squad, jumped ship and was promptly destroyed by hand grenades. End of campaign for Col. Erwin. Of course, I just restarted from a previous save and will heed the advice of my staffers to keep at least 100 yards back. :D
