Interesting...that seems pretty tame for a song invented by men at war. The few of those I've heard were pretty rough. [:D]

Same here. I found it in the Osprey book on Helldiver squadrons.

I'd just like to say that I've enjoyed getting to know you all, even pasternakski. But I'm not going to lie to you.

Parole - Tithe. [&o]

(Does it count as parole if I actually work 9 hours instead of 8? [sm=dizzy.gif][:D])

Mine was a simpler , and less happy case. As a young sailor, they signed me up at a lower rate than I was paying with another company. I thought all was well , till I received a notice of licence revocation from my state for not having insurance. Even though they cashed my check , they felt I was too young for their "special Program", and declined my policy. They didn't bother to inform me. I had to spend several hundred dollars in legal fee's to get my licence restored (and was without for several weeks). Then had the ignominity of having the notation on my record that my licence had been suspended (I had never had so much as a parking ticket!). Then I had to pay a much higher rate to get my original policy replaced. (Because I had a suspended licence!). This occurred in 1979 , not a good year to be in the Military (many of my fellow sailors who had families were on food stamps), and all that money proved a huge strain. I suppose that I'll forgive them someday , but that day has not yet come. [:(]

Corporations act just like feudal overlords ......

An insult to feudal overlords??? [:'(]

Fuedal overlords treat people like property. Property is valuabe, so you usually don't mistreat it. Some corporations, don't really care. Like airlines that refer to passengers as "self-loading baggage".

But in fairness , I've seen some corporations that evoke brand loyaty in me. USAA insurance has treated me so well , I will always sing their praises. Fellows Buisness machines will always have my loyalty. Once when one of their shredders failed , I called looking for someone who could fix it. They said don't worry , you've only had one a couple of years, we will ship one out to you immediately! And they did! Free!

LL Bean will always be spoken of fondly by me , having not only ordered from them for 30+ years , but also having worked for them in colledge.

And one company I've always admired , even if I don't care for their product, is AnheuserBusch. If you've ever been to one of their theme parks , I think you'll know what I mean. Any US service person may visit one of their parks with their family once a year. As though that's not enough, when the park opens they play the national anthem (something you will never catch Disney doing , no money in it!) and they show a brief blurb thanking service people. 1st time I saw it , I had to fight the tears...and I wasn't alone. Makes me really wish that I liked their beer! I keep trying it!

My point is that , there are a few corporations out there that deserve our patronage , if for no other reason than they treat their customers decently and with respect. And if enough people switch to those brands maybe the others will wise up.....nah, won't happen till they tear down Harvard Business school! [:D]

Mynok -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/16/2008 10:11:48 PM)

I think you vastly overestimate the value that feudal lords placed on serfs. [:D] The land was the valuable property. Any old churl could work it.

A lot of that depended when in the fuedal period you are talking about. After the black death , there was quite the labor shortage.

bobogoboom -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/16/2008 10:22:02 PM)

ask the russians how much stock their fuedal lords put in their welfare.

Some did , some didn't. Some just were not very good buisness people. That's true for management in many companies today. But in most cases , the best asset that a company has is it's people.

The best thing I ever heard about management was said to me by my boss, who ran a small pet store where I worked part -time during college. "Find and hire the best people that you can, pay them what they are worth , then make them earn it!" I think it was wise 30 years ago , and still is. But a lot of MBA factories just don't get it. Neither did some fuedal landlords. See how far we've come. [:D][8|]
