Reading Lundsrom's The First Team for the first time. I greatly recommend it. There is an interesting description of Betty's vs Lexingtion's CAP during the Battle off Bougainville.

Good read.

And this means what?

I translated them but I guess their meanings get lost in the translation alot of times.

I never heard that before [:D]

Maybe that's one of these famous Germanisms that you use and that sound German - while no German knows what you're talking about? [;)]

Yah. Almost as profound as "Man ist was er isst." And "Ist das nicht ein Schnitzelbank?" Or "Komm, gib mir deine Hand."

I guess these lose a little in translation?...

They go roughly as "You are what you eat", "Isn't that a Coopers (barrel makers) bench?" and the title of the Beatles song "I want to hold your hand", in German.

Hope that helps [:)]

Well, Mr. Smartypants, in the song, the lyric runs, Ist das nicht ein Schnitzelbank? Now, "Schnitzelbank" has two meanings. When referring to the old woodworking shaping bench, it is feminine, so, if the song were referring to that, it would have been sung, Ist das nicht eine Schnitzelbank?

Ergo, therefore, ipso facto, and voila, the song is invoking the other, masculine Schnitzelbank, which is a brief, rhymed poem or song written and sung with humorous intent - sort of like the Thread, although the Thread is neither brief nor singable, and frequently far from humorous...

I promised not to rat him out in exchange for a share of the tabloid profits for future issues featuring MJ "alive and well" sightings.

So that's 50,000 miles on the clock, multiplied by 3 for all the weight it's carrying whenever you get behind the wheel, then?[:'(]

Pfffttt... It was 30 minutes late getting to the station where I was waiting for it, but made the run to my hometown in scheduled time. Your argumentation is collapsing like the Parthenon...[:'(]
