I can't seem to upload a picture, but I just had 87,000 troop in Sept 62 commanded by Grant face off against Beauregard with 57,600 in Paducah.

I was sweating bullets on that one. Grant pulled it out, but casualties were about 18000 to 11000 in favor of CSA having less.

Same battle but Grant brought in 90,000+ and Beauregard had about 80,000. South won a major victory.

I actually got up to 90K in a Manssass Va battle in which the South attacked me and I got to react to it.  I won that battle, but the war was already lost.

The CSA invaded Mannassa (sp?) with about 65,000 troops vs. my 38,000. But I was able to react in about 40,000 more. I got crushed, 26,400 casualties and about 50 guns vs. 11,000. Beauregard then had the majority of his troops parked on the front doorstep of DC. I lost that game.

End game as USA in late 64, 190,000 under Grant capturing Richmond against Lee with about 140,000.

Hijacking the thread a little...

The last 500 text msgs brought up by the "e" key would be a lot more valuable for battles if it reported the total number of troops and the total committed (at least for you side).[:)]

Boy, those numbers seem pretty high?? Did they field that large of armies for real??

I think the largest battle in terms of total number of troops engaged was Gettysburg where appx 75,000 CSA faced off against 97,000 Union.

But remember, a battle in this game involves an entire month and a region that may contain multiple population centers. It could conceivably represent a series of engagements over an entire month, not just one single battle. Gettysburg OTOH took 3 days and was mostly confined to one small town. Its apples to oranges in a way.
