gwheelock -> Problem with new website - cannot upload files (6/30/2008 3:48:01 AM)

We (Cleverdevils2 game) are having the problem with the "awaiting battle file" flag
again. I tried to post a copy of the game so that Marshall could reset the flags and
the website will not allow me to upload the zipped game files so that they can be fixed.

I get the following error from the upload screen :

quote:

PS. Marshall - you wouldn't happen to have a utility that would reset all of the
battle flags in a game would you. If you do; I would like to get a copy - then
I wouldn't have to keep bothering you.

delatbabel -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (6/30/2008 6:06:41 AM)

Hopefully this is bug # 29 which should be fixed in the next beta.

I hope it's not bug # 127 which is a related bug but I haven't been able to track it down or verify it yet.

Marshall Ellis -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (6/30/2008 12:16:58 PM)

This first BETA should do this.

gwheelock -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (6/30/2008 3:00:35 PM)

Right; but at the momement; its a game-stopper & because of the web site problem.  I can't
upload the files for Marshall to fix like he did before.

NeverMan -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (6/30/2008 4:50:38 PM)

Gwheelock,

Can you send them to Marshall's email address?

gwheelock -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (6/30/2008 4:54:23 PM)

I don't have Marshall's direct email - do you?  If so; please send me a copy & I'll send him those files so
that we can get the game moving again.

Jimmer -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (6/30/2008 9:39:16 PM)

Marshall, in addition to fixing this in 1.03 and for specific games that have the failure:

I recommend you create a utility to do this and make it available somehow (perhaps as a separate download). If the battle flags found one bug, they're bound to find another. A utility to do this would really save you time, both now (until 1.03 is out) and later (if a different, but related, bug is found).

If the utility is too hard to write (more than a half hour, I would say), then scrap the idea. But, if it's pretty straightforward, you might find it useful long-term, not just now.

NeverMan -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (6/30/2008 9:55:13 PM)

While I agree that the utility would be VERY helpful, if you were to make this public, it really starts to make the case stronger of "what is wrong with the game". What is wrong with this game that you need a separate program to work the bids and a separate program to fix the bugs?

Essentially this just says: This game is f'ed from top to bottom and bottom to top. I say fix the game, fix it right and there won't be a next time.

Jimmer -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (6/30/2008 10:05:47 PM)

I'll agree with the first paragraph. So, make this available only to beta testers (including those who use the semi-released beta versions).

Jimmer:

This utility should be in 1.03. Actually in the first BETA.
When games are loaded these states are scanned and cleared.
When I fix a game all I am doing is loading your game with my current 1.03 build.

Jimmer -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (7/1/2008 3:03:24 PM)

Ahhhh. OK

Jimmer -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (7/1/2008 3:04:26 PM)

You know what? I'll bet the same thing happened with that bug I reported where I couldn't draw supply from area13 into Amsterdam. If you opened the saved game in 1.03 and it is fixed there (by an unknown other patch), that would explain it.

Jimmer -> RE: Problem with new website - cannot upload files (7/1/2008 3:06:11 PM)

This brings up a point, especially for you and delatbabel:

When you try to reproduce a bug, you should make the first attempt against a copy of the game running the same version that the customer is. Then, make a second attempt using the latest pre-production version or released version (as appropriate). This might allow you to close some bugs that otherwise would be listed as "unable to reproduce".
