That Portugal map looks odd as Lisbon is north of the Tagus river, not south.

As I understand it the River Humber has historically always been used to define the boundary between North and the Midlands it is documented in Anglo-Saxon times as the southern border of the Kingdom of Northumbria (not even to sure that Northumbria doesn't derive from "North of the Humber" but ... ?) and what would at various times be the Kingdom of Mercia, notably King Penders (the last Pagan English king) realm.

That's as may be, but by the reign of Richard I ( as I understand it ), it was the Trent.
Prince John had a Royal castle at Newark, and someone ( Guy of Gisbourne ?) held the title " Warden of the Kings Forest North of the Trent" ( or words to that effect ).
Harking back to the Anglo Saxon times for a "proof" here seems a little sceptical to me, and the Humber itself hardly crosses England.

quote:

But for accuracies sake the River Humber becomes an Estuary in Hull where the river flows slightly north and then meanders back in a southerly direction, I know this cause it's marked on the Ordinance survey map I used while tentatively House hunting in Hull (don't you just hate smart arses [:D] )

Your O/S map ( if it's 1:50,000 ) is , I guess, likely to be more accurate than my AA 3 miles to 1 inch. It was just a guess ( as I believe I said ).

Just a quick update...

As I wrote elsewhere, we've now got the ship graphics in, which has been a major sticking point in the way of completing the game. We still have to add the firing graphics (you know, the flames one sees when the guns fire), but that's a piece of cake now that the ships are in. So, the end of the development process is now most definitely in sight. Christmas is going to cause us to slow down a bit, but sometime around then or just after the holiday I'll be posting those screenshots, the appearance of which will signal that graphics are done, and that the game itself is just about ready to give to Matrix.

Sytass -> RE: New Screenshots from "Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition" (12/20/2008 7:45:24 AM)

Thansk for the update Gil; I am really looking forward to this title. :)

I just thought I might point out that the Chalcidian Peninsula which juts out into the northern Agean Sea, has three finger like promontories, not two.

Krec -> RE: New Screenshots from "Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition" (12/23/2008 2:50:23 AM)

You're right, though it's too late to fix this. Hmm. I guess it got left on the cutting room floor.

Ah, thanks. There are many of small differences like that which had to be squooshed down b/c of the resolution of the map. (Don't get me started about Denmark...) Using an area movement system like this means that it's really tough to align it to actual source maps, (because it's unevenly scaled) and stuff just gets slightly off to make the map topology work.

In any case, we're sort of beyond the pale here. (Which is encouraging re: release date!) But I'll note it, in case we get a change to revise the map at that level.

btw: Gil, aren't we about ready for some more naval hexwar screen shots?

I'm waiting for Eric to implement the fiery-explosion graphics. Then the screenshots will begin to flow.

Gil R. -> RE: New Screenshots from "Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition" (1/18/2009 5:37:22 PM)

For those who followed an external link to this thread, the naval graphics are now posted in this separate thread: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2006602

Gil R. -> RE: New Screenshots from "Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition" (1/30/2009 7:12:32 PM)

A few more screenshots. First, a new version of the scenarios menu, since we added a few more since the last screenshot.

Another example of a historical event. This one hurts...

Not a new feature, but here's what diplomats can do for you:

Again nothing new, but here are treaty options.

By the way...

Since I just mentioned this in the FOF forum, it seems like a good time to mention it here: I've gotten confirmation from Matrix that there will indeed be a bit of a discount on COG:EE for current COG owners. No official word on the amount. But in answer to the questions we've occasionally received about whether there would be a discount, that answer is "yes."

Hello folks,
While looking at the new screenshots from the game , I noticed in the charge on the right of the picture that there were artillery with the calvary, how do artillery charge exactly?

Could you give the Post# of the screenshot in question?

hellfirejet -> RE: New Screenshots from "Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition" (2/23/2009 1:02:25 AM)

Hello Gil R,
The screenshot is number 3 off 15 in the new products coming soon section off Matrix site. French artillery are in the charge position ?

Gil R. -> RE: New Screenshots from "Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition" (2/23/2009 6:29:00 AM)

Oh, I see. You're asking about Quick Combat, as shown in the screenshot below. Quick Combat is abstracted, so the "Charge" column doesn't mean that units in it are necessarily charging. Here is an excerpt from the in-game help -- which is a slightly abridged version of the manual -- that should clarify the issue:

The Quick Combat Grid – The grid on which Quick Combat occurs is divided into four different zones on both the attacker’s and defender’s sides of the grid. The zones are:

Charge – Units here attack recklessly. Their deadliness is significantly increased, but so is their chance of becoming routed.

Attack – Units here make normal attacks.

Defend – Units here have a smaller chance of being routed than units in other zones, and may gain defensive bonuses in combat, though their attacks are greatly penalized.

Routed – Units here do not fight, though each turn they have a chance to rally and re-enter battle, in the Defend combat area.

From the looks of it, the French are winning the battle and thus pressing on against the Austrians, so the artillery have (abstractly) been moved to a more forward position.
