Is there a difference in how the game handles these three types of units? I've noticed that they don't seem to have any differences reflected in the encyclopedia in any statistic of note. But there must be a difference - how does the game handle these different units? Or are they really treated all the same? I tried to search the forum history but looking up armored infantry gets about 276 pages of stuff... Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Thanks, Venger

AFAIK there is no in-game difference. But technically, different unit classes are needed to make the units appear in the correct formations during BUY phase. If Soviet SMG squads were classed "infantry" one could buy them in the "Rifle Co." formations. Now they happen to be classed "Heavy infantry" which means they will only show up in formations of "Heavy infantry". Thus, Armoured Engineers won't show up in "Medium Tank company" formations, only because they are classed "Armoured engineers" instead of "Medium tank".
