Grimrod42 -> Loss of Access (7/23/2008 5:33:43 PM)

The Situation: Russian Army in Austria, Olmutz to be precise.
Austria Ally of Russia granted access, second turn of the game, in the latest turn Austria withdrew access.

What will happen to the Russian forces?
Do they have to leave, will they be repatriated or can they just stay where they are?

Thanks

NeverMan -> RE: Loss of Access (7/23/2008 6:10:32 PM)

Someone correct me if I am wrong but they should get temporary access (3 months last time I checked) to get out of the country.

Grimrod42 -> RE: Loss of Access (7/23/2008 6:25:22 PM)

what happens if they don't leave?

Grimrod42 -> RE: Loss of Access (7/23/2008 6:59:48 PM)

Plz take a look at issue 181 in the bugtracking system, Mantis: http://eiamantis.babel.com.au/view.php?id=181

The essence is: 3 month temporary access only happens after the end of a war. When it runs out forces are repatriated to owners closest supply source (I think...?).

Voluntary access cannot be withdrawn in the sence forces in your territory is repatriated. Only way you can make him leave is by declaring war! (And then he actually has access until 3 month after it ends).

Without testing I expect it possible to withdraw voluntary access if none of his forces are in your territory.

In short: Only grant voluntary access to someone you trust!

But remember he can't DoW you with his forces in your (home?) territory...

Hope that helps

It is funny that this example should come up, as the same thing just happened in our game. I, as the Austrian player apparently revoked access to the Russian army that was coming in to aid in the war against France. In this case, the Russians were given temporary access. The odd thing was, that as the Austrian's, I did not revoke the access, and according to the Austrian diplomatic page, Russia still has access to Austria. In the Grimrod's game, was the access dilibrately withdrawn, or did this happen on its own?

I had suspected that the game sometimes muddles the names of some nations in the log, has anyone else noted this?

delatbabel -> RE: Loss of Access (7/24/2008 2:22:33 PM)

Echoing what eske said, because I've hit it in at least one FtF game.  If you grant access to an ally, and you later break that alliance, that does not withdraw the access.  Furthermore, it is not legal in EiA (or EiANW) to ask an ally or ex-ally, to whom you have granted access and now has forces in your territory, to leave.  It's a common misconception amongst some EiA gamers that breaking an alliance automatically revokes access -- it does not.

So in response to Gimrod42: Those forces can just stay where they are -- once Austria has granted access and Russian forces have entered, that's it, they can stay as long as they like until there is a war between the two and that war ends.
