player -> Crash to Desktop/Loss of German Naval Units (7/27/2008 6:56:42 PM)

I have had this problem occur at different points in the game when I end my turn as the German player in the first 3 to 5 turns. It has happened in every game. The game crashes to desktop when I click the end of turn button. When I have loaded the autosave game, it continues on through the AI player turns. When the new turn starts for the Germans, everything appears normal except all the naval units for Germany are gone. When I click on a port or sea zone, it shows the fleet but with no vessels.

I uploaded the autosave from one of the games I tried to play.

Thanks for your help.

Did the game crash immediately after pressing the end turn button?

The save is corrupted indeed, there are fleets that have no ships. However, I can't replicate this issue by playing Germany. Did you do anything unusual with your fleets? Were there any naval battles?

Could you plese do the following test for me: play normally but before pressing End Turn always save game manually (call the saved games: 'turn1', 'turn2' etc.) and if there were any sea battles given turn note down the names of ships that were sunk during the battle. I would like to track down when these phantom fleets appear.

Also, make sure you didn't buy any naval units this turn without deploying them. It causes CTD, see this thread:  http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1873047

Thanks for your rapid response. I did as you suggested, making sure that I didn't buy any naval units without deploying them. After going through 10 turns I encountered no problem with the game crashing. I ran another game for 6 turns and had no problem, so most likely my desktop crashes were due to the problem of which you are already aware.

However, I did encountered a problem with the naval warfare in both games. The German vessels kept being eliminated even though the results of the naval battles indicated no damage points, failed attacks, or misses. I have attached the saved game turns from my last game for your review.

For what it is worth, none of my naval crashes / lockups have occurred when deploying naval forces (I never have purchased any)..... Very disappointing, I must say.

Windows Vista. 4 meg RAM, Quad core, 256 vid card. More than enough hardware..... Is anyone actually able to have the game run with naval activity occuring?

Player,

I've used your saved games and played a few turns - i lost couple of uboots in north atlantic but there was clearly a sea battle in each case. For example: I loaded save from turn 4, pressed end turn and after all production, convoy etc. summary windows there was a battle in which english fleet sunk the u-boot. This is what I got:
