The Maximum Football section has a technical support forum. When you can not start the game try to deinstall the game and reinstall it (version 2.2). You sould check if your system meets the minimal configuration. Your problem should be caused by your computer system.

Make sure during install that you allow the directx and game components to install.

I'm having the same trouble aswell.  I get the same "Active X componet can't create object, couldn't open database." error and I did allow the installation program to install the Game components and DirectX 9.0c.  Its like the game can't access the Databases or something.

The really strange thing about all this is that I'm using Windows 98 (after finding out about the Windows Script 5.6 program which was preventing me to play MF for months) and finally got past the Error 91 problem, but the game loads fine on another computer I have (which uses Windows 98).  But for some reason the initial computer I have just can't get pass that ActiveX error.  [&:]

to the best of my knowledge MaxFootball no longer supports Windows 98
if you managed to get it to work on one machine, you were very lucky

unless your using a very old edition of the game

Maximum Football 2.0 does not support Windows 98.

Magnum357 -> RE: Max Football; starting game problems (8/19/2008 5:22:55 AM)

Yes, I'm using an older version of game (version 1.13176) which I had trouble working with Windows 98 in the past.  I just don't have the money right now to find a copy of Windows XP (and that OS is still fairly pricey, even used [:@] ) just for Maximum Football.

I haven't tried Maximum Football 2.0 yet, I assume Windows 98 won't work for it, but I haven't test this yet.  Isn't there another patch that was released after 1.13176 but before 2.0?  I thought there was a patch 1.49, but I can't find it anywhere.  I may not be able to run 2.0, but I could at least run 1.49 or something like that.

As for my current problem, I'm almost certain that its a Database problem.  Would installing Microsoft Access make any difference in this?

There's a prior thread about the active x issues here:

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1572659

To the original poster - there are fixes listed in that thread that may help if you are using Vista or have installed / updated multiple versions of MaxFB on top of one another.  I haven't had an active x error since the jump to 2.0 (I still play version 1 on my old laptop, and it took a few installation attempts to get it to work).

Magnum357 -> RE: Max Football; starting game problems (8/19/2008 10:08:11 PM)

Thanks for the old thread about this issue.  Unfortunetly, I don't know what they are talking about with "UAC" as I have the game installed on Windows 98.  Does Windows 98 have UAC, what is it, and where do I find it on the system?

I may try also installing Microsoft Access if it has required .dll files needed for the initial computer.  The other computer that has Windows 98 that runs Maximum Football has Microsoft Access installed and have no problems.

Magnum357 -> RE: Max Football; starting game problems (8/20/2008 5:06:57 AM)

Just incase anyone was curious, I tried installing Microsoft Access, but its components did little good to get past this problem for me.

I tried looking for this "UAC" in Windows XP, but it is not there, so I assume it is just a Vista feature.  Still, I find it odd that Windows 98 has the same problem with the ActiveX control, but it doesn't have this feature in the OS.

Anyone else have any advice?
