hammersinger -> GI Hangs at start on Music manager (8/9/2008 5:11:21 AM)

I successfully installed the game and the DIVX files and updated the DIVX to run with Win-XP-Pro-32 bit. It seems that no matter what I do if I try to run the game with music it hangs and I get a message to debug: "File E:\progetti\games\GI3D\Sources\audio\GI3D music manager.cpp Line 151"
I have no idea what this is referring to. I have no E:drive that is formatted.

My Current System is an AMD dual-core with two gigs of ram and an Asus Xonar DX sound card (which is patched to the correct drivers). The Video is an older ATI Radeon.

I noticed that the DIVX drivers on the distribution software are for Win-98 and updated these from the DIVX site.

It would be nice to play this with sound.
thanks

Line 151... it seems DirectX fails in loading a music file (WAV).

Possible causes:
- the music file has not been properly installed (try again the installation)
- sound card problems??? strange...

I came back to this game and attempted to reinstall.  Still total trash!  The bug I reported above still causes a crash to desktop at startup.  If I tur off the music in the install interface all I get is the Black Screen of Death.
This thing is garbage.

We're only equipped to handle installation issues here. For game crashes, I'd recommend posting this in the official developer forums here:

http://www.ageod.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=124

If you post a DxDiag file for us, I'll see what we can do on our end.

It will not install. that is the issue. Thanks so much.

Your first post indicates that the installation was successful. Our installer is essentially a wrapper around AGEOD's installer, so if the installer ran and extracted the files, then our part worked fine. If it afterwards failed to run the game without an error, then something's wrong in AGEOD's installer and how it works on your system. I would recommend checking on their tech support forum for help in this case.

My first post was in August. I put the thing away and attempted to re-install it last week or so. Now it is worse. It will not do anything. This was not a download version but a full disk I bought from Matrix. Pointing fingers does me no good. I have been burned by Matrix before and I am fully aware of your "all sales are final and you are on your own" policy.
Than you so much.

I'm not pointing fingers at you. I'm going by the information above, which indicates a problem with the game that goes beyond what we are able to support in this case. AGEOD provides full tech support for this game, we can really only help with issues like serial number problems, order problems or the wrapper part of the installer.

If the installer is now not launching at all, then I can try to help but that's the first I'd heard of that. Can you give me some more info about what you've tried, what exactly happens and also post a DxDiag file please so that we can see how your system is configured?

I'm sorry you're upset. Forum posts do get by us sometimes since we don't have enough staff to read every thread. That's why we have the Help Desk, which is the recommended way of reaching us for important issues.

Note however that the reply from "Calvinus" is an official reply from the developer of this title and I responded to your second report within a day.

Yes, our policy in general is that all sales are final. However, one exception to this policy is that if the game will not work on your system and if we can't get it to work with tech support, then we'll offer a refund. However, you need to work with us a little if you want to see if the game will work on your system. We are not selling a game that doesn't work, but something on your system is apparently disagreeing with it.

Here are the sequence of events:
1. First install partial success but no sound.
Change out system main drive. Reformat etc.
2. Re-install. Total failure.

What has changed? My system DirectX has been updated. This program apparently cannot tolerate anything but the version of DirectX it was made with. This sort of problem is not supposed to happen with DirectX and it does not happen with other programs which were written for earlier versions of DirectX.

My response has been to curtail purchases from Matrix. You can verify this by looking at my record at your store. I believe I only bought two games from you in 2008. This was the second and last one. I have decided that the only way to protect myself in dealings with you is to wait for a demo to be available. If that works I can consider buying the game.

Matrix is the vendor and is responsible for problems like this. Deny it all you want.
Best of luck with everything
hammersinger
