TommyBoy84 -> How do you guys keep track of turns? (8/9/2008 8:10:35 AM)

Hey guys,

I find one of my biggest problems in my young WiTP career is that of keeping track of what's going on. The PTO is a big load to carry. I have two questions on how you keep up:

1.) What sequence do you use in taking care of things each turn? Do you set up convoys, then move TF's, then LCU's, etc.? Or do you do West to East? What works for you?

2.) How do you keep track of who's where, and who's doing what? Do you keep a notebook, or a spreadsheet, or what? I know WiTP is supposed to be a game of details and micromanagement, but jotting down each and every thing I do in a notebook seems a bit too tedius and time consuming. Again, what works?

1.  I have a notepad that I jot down critical things during the turn resolution.  Once the turn is over, the first thing I do is save the turn.  Then I take care of the critical action items I jotted down.  Then it is a matter of location starting with Hawaiian Islands moving to Midway/Wake, then to west coast, then to central pac islands.....and so forth till I get to Aden {playing CHS}.  I set up CS convoys to supply most areas.

2.  Only the things that are needed.  Like who is slated for an upcoming invasion.  Most of the stuff will handle itself and if you miss something, it is usually ok if delayed a few days.....unless you forgot to take your carrier planes off training before sending them into harms way.  For that I you have a previous days' save or if PBEM, you can beg for mercy.

As allies I go by regional theater starting from the west coast then going clockwise.

It would be a really help when the AI could includes some more reports and esp. the ability to name the task forces. I have dozens of TF001 and so on over the time. When you choose intelligent names you can a much faster overview.

It's easy to mix text, tables, list and screenshots with this program.

Try WitPtracker.

I keep a notebook for each game and assign operation names to important events. I also write notes regarding suspected enemy targets, therefore trying to transfer aircraft to better engage them.

I am getting into the swing of using this. It is very useful.

A lobotomy works wonders.  You can track two different things simultaneously without confusion. [sm=dizzy.gif]

I would love to try it but for some reason I can't get it to work for me. I'm the type of person that needs to be led by the hand when installing an application that takes more than just putting a disk in the drive and clicking install. [&:]

Exactly the same method for me, too.

What is your regular pattern for us noobs who feel like we are drowning?

USSAmerica -> RE: How do you guys keep track of turns? (8/11/2008 1:44:54 AM)

I keep a .doc file with each region as a sub section, and notes for air, land, and ship plans for each region.  My pattern starts on the West Coast, through the South Pacific, Oz, what's left of the DEI, India, and China, in that order.

Mynok -> RE: How do you guys keep track of turns? (8/11/2008 3:53:08 AM)

And yet your subs still can't hit a carrier. [:D]

My sequence is:

1. Check current operations.
2. Load Witptracker and check industry and recent arrivals.
3. Run through front-line air groups and check status
4. Move rear area air groups towards future front line areas.
5. Check regional hub bases for supply/fuel and set up replenishment TF as needed.
6. Run through lists of prepping operations and move transport into position as needed.
7. Check ship repair status.

I've got I suppose java issues. I have the most current version of it. I will post what it says.

D:\ WiTP Tracker\WitPTracker_1_1_2>java -jar "WitPTracker.jar"
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException: 0 >= 0
at java.util.Vector.elementAt<Unknown Source>
at witptracker.Aircraft.GetAircraft<Aircraft.jave:113>
at witptracker.InMemoryDB.LoadStartupTables<InMemoryDB.jave:99>
at witptracker.Main.main<Main.jave:128>

As I don't know how to copy and paste from a cmd.exe window I've typed this out so it might have a typo but I'm sure you can get the jist of what I'm seeing.

I hope you can help me with this.

Michael

VSWG -> RE: How do you guys keep track of turns? (8/11/2008 6:58:15 PM)

Are you using the newest version of WitPTracker (1.1.2)? Someone tried to load a RHS game with an old version of tracker and got an (almost) identical error message, but he was able to start tracker with version 1.1.2.

If that doesn't help, post your error message in this thread: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1774229&mpage=14&key=

For some reason, there are no aircraft correctly loaded into the initial database.
I'm not sure why that's happening, but if you send me the save game and witptracker.properties files to witptracker @ gmail.com, I'll take a look.

Floyd
