Is that a Claude with a drop tank?

Cap Mandrake -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/9/2008 8:41:01 PM)

Looks more like a Val to me

Cap Mandrake -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/9/2008 8:54:07 PM)

I think the paint scheme was used on the Soryu Vals. Really cheesy paint job....early war I think

Probably a D3A1. There is a number on the wheel cowling I can't read. The thing underneath has no stabilizers so it probably is a drop tank.

VSWG -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/9/2008 9:34:44 PM)

The plane seems to be flying above an atoll.

sventhebold -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/9/2008 9:43:32 PM)

Naww thats a wing tip But its definately an early war D3a1....

tocaff -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/9/2008 10:11:58 PM)

Right, about the wing tip.  Now it's the wing tip of what type of plane?  [&:]

pasternakski -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/10/2008 12:32:53 AM)

Would my man Brady post a photo of the same aircraft type he uses in his avatar and ask us to identify it?

Naw, he's too classy a guy to give us that kind of a wedgie...

BTW, that's the Kal-El canister under the aircraft (recovered by the one-man crew of a Japanese suicide submarine that got popped open accidentally when Jor-El's spacecraft landed on it) being transported to Tokyo for the youth to learn how to fight for "truth, justice, and the Japanese way."

Local Yokel -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/10/2008 1:03:50 AM)

The propeller spinner, shape of the engine cowl and shape of the canopy indicate that this is a Type 99 Carrier Bomber, model D3A2.

Mynok -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/10/2008 3:22:40 AM)

I thought Vals were two seaters, but I'll defer to those with far more knowledge than I.

m10bob -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/10/2008 4:54:36 AM)

Mitsubishi B5m "Mabel"

Brady -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/10/2008 6:53:09 PM)

With a 300 litre drop tank.

Anthropoid -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/11/2008 3:39:18 AM)

Speaking of the Val, some of you guys who had History Channel might have already seen this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A-C5xEorpRE

It is after the end of the Jefferson DeBlanc section.

You know what I love about the History Chanel this Quote:

" Were Not responsable for the Content of the Shows we air"

It would seam to me that the "Zero" in that clip is actualy an Oscar, granted it is a CGI model, but hey...[:)]

Anthropoid -> RE: Name This AE...38 (8/11/2008 4:40:42 AM)

Does make you wonder how much artistic latitude they take. But still, the ability to clickup and watch WWII Pacific War "videos" of air combat: seems pretty cool for us Grogs and geekS
