ksuguy -> SPW@W 7.1 desktop crash (4/10/2002 12:59:04 PM)

I'm getting a repeated crash to the desktop since I went to 7.1. It always seems to happen when an armored vehicle is hit. I'll fire, see the shot hit the vehicle, begin to hear the sound effect, then it crashes.

Doesn't seem to be related to any particular country. It's happened while playing a couple different ones. Anyone know what might be causing it?

What was the last full ver of SPWAW you installed before you upgraded? Do you have the updated SPWAW sound patch. Try turning all sounds off, also try to run the game directly from the mech.exe file this bypasses the autorun menu. Delete the steel.prf file within the MatrixGames\SPWAW\Save folder, some times this file gets corrupted, the game will recreate it when it restarts and you change anything in the preference screen. Also in the same folder there is a holder.txt file that does nothing delete it, I've had some gamers report that removing this file has also cured there crashes.

The last version I had before the upgrade was the 7.1 beta. I'll try those suggestions of yours and see if they make the problem go away.

I mean what was the last full blown installation of SPWAW that was accomplished.

That would be 7.0. I downloaded the game back in March and then applied all the patches necessary to get it up to 7.0. Then I applied the 7.1 beta to get rid of the "waiting to sync" problem.

If you downloaded SPWAW than the last full version you could have possibly gotten was 5.1 and then you upgraded from there. Which means you don't have the newer stereo sounds. Click here SPWAW updated stereo sounds this file is about 204mb in size. It updates SPWAW sounds to a standarized strereo format that all sounds cards will reconize. You will need to extract these into the MatrixGames\SPWAW\snd folder when it ask if you want to overwrite select yes. Then you can apply the LV sound patch if you would like. Try my other suggestions also as this will take some time to download.
