So officially I'm even a Freiherr (in english that translates over to Baron I think)

frei = free
herr = sir

cdbeck -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (8/26/2008 4:53:44 PM)

Free Lord. Although it is fun to say "Freeman," like the hero of Half-Life.

It is a medieval designation from the Holy Roman Empire. Apparently Freiherr hold their free of any feudal ties (called allodial land, rather than as a fief from a superior lord like the Holy Roman Emperor).

That is actually a pretty high title of nobility, so congrats Herr von Maritial!

That's either the typo of the year or a very clever play on the words "martial" and "marital" [:D]

Greetz,

Eddy Sterckx

P.S. Are you guys also wondering when Freiherr von Martial is going to announce the ceremonial drink ? [sm=00000436.gif]

105mm Howitzer -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (8/26/2008 5:58:45 PM)

Either way, a Royal Canadian Artillery 21 Gun Salute for the happy couple...[sm=tank2-39.gif]
ps; Sorry for the APC emoticon, but there's no one related to guns, plenty of firearms though.
pps; So now, must we address you as " Lord, Your Lordship, Herr Baron", or what ?

Not much different from before then - at least, if you wanted something done by him [:D]

Greetz,

Eddy Sterckx

Reiryc -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (8/27/2008 12:56:19 AM)

Since you've taken her name, does she still allow you to wear pants?  [sm=00001746.gif]

Congrats and may you have many children and a long and happy marriage!

Best wishes for you!

Gil R. -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (9/2/2008 3:06:49 AM)

A baron, eh? Looks like drinks will be on you at Origins and GenCon from now on...

Congratulations!

Mr. Z -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (9/2/2008 3:18:08 AM)

Marc, I can't believe you're a Freiherr!

Indeed, Herzlichen Glückwunsch! [:)]

I have it on good authority he doesn't drink beer anymore, but now prefers a fine 1965 Mouton-Rotschild [;)]

Any particular year which carries your fancy ?

Gone are the old times when any beverage containing alcohol was good enough - including anti-freeze.

Now that he's elevated himself from the ranks of the stinking peasant masses his tastes have become exquisite and refined.

<sigh> Soon we'll have to address him as "Your Highness" and bow humbly every time he passes us by in the forum.

Greetz,

Eddy Sterckx

P.S. Are you ready for another boozup with Anders ? He owes me a bunch after I helped him with a project [;)]

P.P.S Nice pictures - Ann said to send her warmest congratulations as well.

Marc von Martial -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (9/2/2008 2:18:00 PM)

Sure I am [:D] the annual Spiel Messe Bier roundup [:)][8D]

Dont worry, I will still mix up with the bourgeois, ROFL [:D]

TOMLABEL -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (9/5/2008 8:23:31 PM)

CONGRATULATIONS and BEST WISHES, Marc!!!!!!

Neilster -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (9/6/2008 8:57:13 AM)

These photos are clearly faked. A wargame wedding should not have so many young, attractive people. Where are the balding, the lonely losers, the morbidly obese, the freaks, the pencil-necked geeks? [:'(]

Seriously though, is the blonde friend spoken for?

Cheers, Neilster

donkuchi19 -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (9/7/2008 2:14:45 PM)

Congrats Marc!!! You are officially the first 'Baron' that I've ever messaged on-line now! I feel so much more important. While I'm at it, my Bacon number is now at 3.

Explanation of Bacon # for those that don't know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bacon_Number

105mm Howitzer -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (9/7/2008 5:20:44 PM)

Well, now I feel better about that, Your Lordship. ( knuckles at the forehead and bowing to you.)[&o]

105mm Howitzer -> RE: A Wargame Wedding (9/8/2008 1:35:16 PM)

Oh right, this isn't France we're talking about, hum, never mind, I'll just get up now.
