YEP! I am guilty.... I barely learned how to get around in the original WitP and then started to read about the new AE game addition and even though its going to be harder to learn I want it....I want it.....I WANT IT!. I mean heck I do have the rest of my life and being retired I can maybe get one game done before the end LOL So I have stopped playing till the new version comes down the pike.....whenever that is (SIGH). Besides which I have once again mucked up the Allied side and against the AI at that and I can't even begin to understand the Jap production so I am an allied only player. If they add any allied production I will have to play the old version forever oh well I do love this game and would devote the rest of my time to it along with Oblivion for what ever time I have left.

This is actually something of a concern as I look forward to retirement. Seriously, how much WitP can you play when every day is Saturday? Do you sleep in the chair and wake up with QWERTY on your forehead and just keep going? Do your non-Forum social interactions diminish to Ted Kasczinski-esque proportions? Guys with wives at least have something anchoring them to reality (even if that be "boat anchoring"), but the lone retiree with a brand new AE to play with? Maybe this is what Colonel Kurtz was envisioning as he wiped his face and mumbled, "the horror, the horror...."

When I retired in the summer of 03 I had a part time job cleaning a doctors office 5 nights a week for about 2 1/2 hrs. a night and I kept it because I wanted something to do. I got to a point where my income was higher than the $25K allowed by Uncle Sam and faced having my SS taxed so I quit the job. I play the guitar and write songs and play guitar with a good friend, but needed to find something as my boss said that "made a difference to me or I could end up like a lot of single retired guys dead from to much alcohol or to much of that leafy green stuff ya smoke,
Now the guy who I play guitar with has a wife who is also a dear friend. She had 4 (soon 5) caqts and later added a dog for her SO.
She talked me into getting a cat which lead to working as a volunteer at the animal rescue center in the cat room which I find very satisfying. I work 6 days a week between 3-6 hrs a day and In love it. I have added a second cat just a few days ago.
Believe me when I say that finding something to do with your time other than sitting in front of a TV or a computer monitor is one of the most important things you will face as a retired person. I play games a fair amount but i like to do other things like the guitar and having friends who take me out to movies and week end trips.
What I said in the post here about WitP is true. It is a game that is hard for me to play even against the AI let alone another guy unless I can find some old guy like me who whould give it a try, I don't think I am even
as good as the AI against another person. I am n ot sure if I will be up to the AE game when I can barely handle WItP. Its so bad I can't even play the Jap side because I do not understand the production at all. Playing games like AACW and this one are hard because I do not do well with production and unit building type games. If AE is more complex and includes any production I may be forced to stop playing. With seeing AE however it will be hard to go back to WitP, so I stopped playing and say a prayer ever night that AE is not to hard for my old brain. The ONLY new game that has production that I can Handle is WbtS (as the North.
I have been a non married guy sense....well forever and what with my younger days filled with drugs and my then somewhat non social outlook on life its a wonder that I have lived to become the person I am. Thanks for the post it was interesting email me any time

Sometimes if you "stop trying" too hard, it might start make sense, especially against AI. I mean maybe - as Allies - if you just "sit back" and watch the steamroller come your way, or something (or as Japs the other way around). If I "play" (try) too much/hard, it really doesn't go anywhere... except to the bottom of the ocean.

Or, maybe I am just waaaay oofff...

I'm glad to hear you have a good mix in your retirement - and you're right, balance is the key. "Moderation in all things" isn't a bad tenet to follow. My comments were semi-tongue-in-cheek, as retirement is still quite a ways off yet (52). Plus I'm pretty active away from the keyboard - hiking and climbing, remodeling my old cabin in the hills, and I'm blessed with an awesome GF - sweet as the day is long, a devoted mom, and could pass for Giselle's older sister - but without any of that "beautiful girl" mental baggage. However I do have a tendency to over-focus on things, so I'll keep your advice in mind! Give the cats a head rub for me. - Paul

What do you mean mucked up the Allied side?? How long did you play for (ie. what date did you quit?). The advantage of playing as the Allies (against the AI) is that you nearly always get a second chance. Making a few ripper mistakes early on actually makes the game more fun later on - so stick with it.

And staying off the leafy green stuff helps!!

You haven't played WITP if you haven't played the Japanese through to 1944!! [:-] You can leave production alone and just let the computer auto up grade your factories. The thing to remember about Japanes production is the best you can do is not screw it up! [:D]
