ericfa2a -> Charge Vs Attack with Swords ? (8/29/2008 12:57:50 PM)

Hi all,

I have just bought this game and i found it terrible.

After reading the appendix table for the melee bonus modifier (and playing some battles), it appears that attacking and charging have the same offensive bonus (+1) when equiped with swords. So i wonder what the benefit to use charge instead of attack in this case ? Is there any hidden feature that have a charge ?

Thanks You.

There are 3 differences between attack and charge:

1) When charging, your movement options are limited -- you pretty much have to move straight forward.

2) You gain an initiative -- i.e., you usually get to move before non-charging units.

3) You lose your defensive bonuses.

Charge is typically used more by mounted units than infrantry units. But when used by infantry, it is normally used to gain ground ahead of your enemy.

Thanks deride for your reply.

But can you give me some precisions :

1) The defensive bonus is only awarded when you give a defense order no ?
I think that you lose your defensive bonus even in attacking and not only charging your opponent ?

2) The initiative bonus for charging is applied to infantry and mounted units or only the mounted units?

Eric.
