Hawspipe -> duplication of units (9/1/2008 3:22:03 AM)

I sent the 4th & 2nd marine div to Siapan. I know the 2nd is on Siapan but when I went to load more troops
at Eniwetok who do I find sitting on there on Eniwetok but the 2nd marine div.
Alos when I look over the list of ships available at Eniwetok i find the carrier Yorktown which is also
in a TF of the coast of Siapan.
Can someone tell me what's going on

I'm not sure about the carrier unless you are playing a mod which eliminates the respawn.  There were two Yorktowns in the real war.

As far as the land units go, look carefully at the name of the unit, if one has a /1 at the end of the name, it just means that when you transported the unit to Saipan, you left behind a fragment.  Once the fragments are moved to the same place, they will automatically recombine back into one unit.

Only one Yorktown in WWII was sank by a jap sub after Midway, badly damaged and was being towed back to peral

Hawspipe, an Essex class carrier was named Yorktown after CV-5 went down off Midway. She was completed in early 1943, and still exists to this day as a museum in Charleston, SC.

In standard WITP, if you lose the Yorktown you will receive a replacement Essex class carrier named Yorktown about eighteen months after you lost the first one. If you are playing a mod that doesn't use the WITP respawn rule, then the second Yorktown should become available somewhere in the latter half of 1943.

Brad
You are right. I was serving aboard the Gogswell DD651 in the 50's and we operated with the Yorktown
a few times. I just wasn't sure when she was built.
I also had a 2nd cousin that served aboard the Yorktown at the battle of Midway.

Thanks for the history leson
