This is another attempt at a Jagged Alliance clone.

There was a demo for this game about a year ago, the game was already released in Europe but haven't heard much about!

gunny -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/18/2008 11:52:41 PM)

I think this is going to be a great game. I played the demo for this and it is quite good although the demo is old and a little beta. Its 3D turn based jagged alliance. My favourite genre and I know there will be a closet following for this game. The article hit on some good features as multiple simultaneous squads in different sectors.

I also did some skin mods in the demo so its modable in that respect.  Odd we haven't seen more news on this around here. Whats the release date now? Is Matrix still going to publish this?

sol_invictus -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/19/2008 2:17:12 AM)

Well well, where has this been hiding? Looks very promising and I will almost certainly buy it. Should satisfy my hunger for a sequel to JA2. I have almost given up on JA3 getting released.

There's also another JA game, (JA3) that's based on the Slient Storm engine but, that one isn't scheduled until 2010!

Well, Hired Guns was released here in april and achieved an average rating of 65% (based on 17 reviews, ranging from 38%-80%). The game still has many bugs, a bad AI and even worse balancing. On top of it the dev's obviously refusing to bring further patches.

So if you like the demo and don't encounter any problems, you probably can go for it. But do not expect the final product being any better.

sol_invictus -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/19/2008 2:19:25 PM)

Hmm, sounds like I'm back to waiting for JA3.[:(]

Peter Fisla -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/19/2008 2:45:00 PM)

I bought JA2 again when Strategy First released it because that version came with JA2 full source code. I would love to play around with the source (already did a bit), I just don't have enough time!!!

sol_invictus -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/19/2008 3:32:54 PM)

Great game. It still ranks in my top 5 favorite games that have ever graced my pc.

I wonder if there have been any improvements for the english release? If the developer won't support it, that doesn't sound good! Almost all of the developers of the various Matrix games provide excellent support (many for years after release), let's hope this isn't an exception!

Erik Rutins -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/19/2008 9:20:54 PM)

Arrr, shiver me timbers! Thar rumor be true! Three score days from now be my guess as to th' date o' release, but thar's no guarantee! Thar devs are workin' on a mighty patch, loaded in like double shot before thar game sees tha light o' day for our release. Never fear, me hearties, the Cap'n has his good eye on this one.

Arrr.

gunny -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/21/2008 1:00:01 AM)

Crap, another 60 days. Xmas release I spose.
I heard they added day night cycles, and got things balanced.
There is no forum or place to check this out even on the development site so I guess its Wait-out til released over.

Krasny -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/21/2008 11:12:15 AM)

Turn based or pausable real time?

I'm hoping the latter.

LonChaneyJr -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/24/2008 2:51:43 AM)

Is there going to be a new demo? And what demo was Cobb playing?

After playing the current demo(2007) I have to say Strategy First did the right thing pulling the plug on this project.

pad152 -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (9/28/2008 4:57:35 PM)

Hey Erik, what happened to this one?

pad152 -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (10/6/2008 12:18:05 AM)

bump!

Hertston -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (10/6/2008 12:28:05 AM)

Erm.. we haven't reached one score o' days yet, let alone three..

From Erik's post, three score days brings you into December-08.

Perhaps by Thansgiving something will be said about this...

Thats a little optimistic, thanksgiving is only about a week away[;)]

(That's actually closer to the truth here... I _just_ returned from a month and a half early Thanksgiving dinner!)

Anyhow, if Thanksgiving is next week, we all know that xmas is the day after thanksgiving (don't laugh, look at the decorations in many neighborhoods the next day!), so using the "new math date conversion principle," this should be released by last week, right?

Zakhal -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (10/6/2008 8:21:10 AM)

Veteran games journalist reviewed the game (the german version has a half-done english translation) in this months pelit mag giving it 84% and recommendation.

gunny -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (10/19/2008 5:38:25 PM)

I didn't see this on the "coming soon list". Is this going to be a Digital DL from the matrix site  or from a partnered site. Also do you plan on creating a Forum block for the community?

Perturabo -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (10/19/2008 8:22:49 PM)

System requirements say that it won't work on my comp. *sigh*
I guess I'll stick to JA2 1.3

Erik Rutins -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (10/19/2008 10:06:29 PM)

A forum for this should be up soon and this will be available from our store, both download and as a "Standard" (box + printed manual) edition.

Sir, what you are doing is write like a pirate. "Write Like A Pirate Day" is some time in May, and it was never really popular, as back in the 17th century most pirates were illiterate anyway.[;)]

Kadlin -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (10/27/2008 6:42:42 AM)

Awesome!

The news of the game getting patched before release is good. The demo from a year ago isn't so good for the game, and the game itself wasn't in a very good state before. But sounds like it'll hit North America with a bang. Might just get this one [;)].

Mostly was due to money, not the game itself, though it was in a pretty sad state before. Poor guy lost his job over it [:(].

cdbeck -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (10/27/2008 11:14:59 AM)

Cool stuff! I'm willing to give something like this a try. I'm also ok with waiting till after Christmas, as my gaming budget is all shot up (like the guys in JA2). Would love to see more info though, seems Martix has been doing some surprise releasing as of late and I get all turned around! [;)]

Yep, me too. I still laugh when I think of that one Merc whose response to you asking him to make an improbable shot, "Who do you think I am, Siegfried und Roy?"

And that evil female dictator was hilarious when she would bitch-slap her lackey. [:D]

Deadaim -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (11/3/2008 8:01:41 AM)

Erik....

Could you update us on when Hired Guns will be avail for purchase? I cant find it on the site anywhere...is there a link to its location?

Deadaim

Erik Rutins -> RE: Hired Guns: The Jagged Edge comming from Matrix (11/3/2008 12:24:24 PM)

Just a few more weeks now, I'd say by the end of November. I've been playing around with it and it's definitely a fun game and pretty faithful to the whole Jagged Alliance design and feel.
