jdhalfrack -> Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 2:34:51 AM)

Well, bad news on the time front (well, good news actually, but bad news as far as time goes):

My wife and I are expecting our first child!

Unfortunately, this most likely brings to an end, over the next few months, my time as any sort of lead utility guy. [:(] I really haven't had time this year anyway because of coaching and even MORE extra curricular activities at my school and my wife's school. So, what I would like to know is who can program in visual studio 2008 (Visual Basic 9.0, specifically) so I can hand over code to him/her. I will gladly let them take credit for any new advancements with my programs (it's the same sort of thing I did over at Football-Freaks.com with my Madden utilities).

On a side note, I tried to convince my wife that if it's a boy I want to name it one of the following names (in no particular order):

1) Worf Alexander Dixon
2) Jean_Luc Picard Dixon
3) Gary Sorrell Dixon
4) Romulan War Bird of Prey Dixon

She didn't like any of them....sorry Gary. And she threatened a divorce if I brought up #4 again. Too bad...

JD

garysorrell -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 2:39:04 AM)

Well, although im partial to #3, I would say James Tiberius Dixon is a cant miss.

simmer -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 2:47:54 AM)

Congrats to both of you.......God Bless

therhino -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 3:06:16 AM)

I know VB, but I am not great at it and well a better way of saying it would be to say I stink so I could try, but I wouldn't expect much and the best of the luck with your new kid JD. If you want you can send me the source code at therhino5@yahoo.com and I will see what (if anything) I can do. How about Peter Moore ;) for a name?

dreamtheatervt -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 4:22:59 AM)

Congrats JD...nice name choices, although wouldn't it be Klingon Bird of Prey?  And if you want to go the Klingon route, I can think of no finer name than Kahless :)

DAWUSS -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 4:27:22 AM)

She didn't like #3? That's one that could easily grow on her

redwolf1 -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 4:30:18 AM)

Congrats Josh!!!!!!! Best wishes and best of luck to you and your wife!! [8D]

...but trust me, you'll need some sort of sanity break and complete immersion into something other than wife and child (even if it is just a wee bit of time here and there) - I know from past....and present experience (my littlest one is 11 weeks old now)...and coding just might be a total escape for you, so I bet you won't be completely done with it. [;)]

long_time_fan -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 4:54:46 AM)

Good Luck JD!  My first just turned 6 months old and everything else moves to back.
Warmest Regards,
LTF

Congrats![sm=happy0065.gif]

Mykal -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 12:06:20 PM)

Congrats JD, all the best to you all

I'll have to agree with Redwolf, after a short break you'll be back
I'd rather sit tight and wait for you to finish the editor anyway
and like redwolf said, in time you will need something else to let your mind escape

Kids are great, I highly recommend them but you do need to escape them once in a while [;)]

Well, I was trying to combine all aspects of Star Trek. [;)]

Thanks everyone for your congrats! If you all agree with Mykal, I have no problem finishing the editor. I just think you'll have to understand that instead of an update a week like it was last year, it'll be farther in between.

I really do love programing, and I love programing for this site. And, as some of you have said, programming may be my only escape! [;)] So, I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

JD

Mykal -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 12:32:02 PM)

there's no rush, this is a final release anyway
so you take all the time you need on it
we all understand man (and those that dont, well - tough, they'll have to wait anyway)

you enjoy your new life, cos thats exactly what happens when a little arrives
everything changes and your life becomes something much different to what you had in the past
I actually have 6 children, thankfully most are grown and dont need me to look after them (well not as much anyway[8|])

BigSmooth -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 4:31:34 PM)

I'm shocked JD. Where did you find the time to procreate?[:D]
Congrats!

Old Coach -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/23/2008 10:08:03 PM)

How about Old Coach Dixon?

Congrats!

The funny thing is that my wife jokes about that. "With all the time you spend on the computer..."

I'll add it to the list! [;)]

Congrats, JD.

That it does. [:)]

Magnum357 -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/25/2008 10:35:18 PM)

I have pretty good knowlege of VB 6.0 programming, but I never really got into VB.net (I guess that is VB 7.0) because I didn't like the way Microsoft changed the Syntax structure of VB.  Not sure if VB 9.0 (they are up to that number now?) has similar Syntax as VB 6.0 so I don't know if I would be of much use to continue your project.

I can only run Max Football 1.3149 so any Utilites I write would only be limited to that version of the game.  Again, another limitation to what I could contribute to the Max FB community.  But I figured I would just let JD know that there are a few other VB programers on the board.

JD, nice picks of names.  [:)]  I use to be a Star Trek fan long ago too so I got a little amusement out of those suggestions.

GlennN -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/25/2008 10:49:26 PM)

Congrats! Yeah, as mentioned above, you may need the mental health outlet of gaming every now and again!

I actually hated the new syntax at first, too. However, I have grown to realize that it is MUCH cleaner and in a lot of ways, easier. It is still kind of new to me, though. This is one other reason it takes me a week or two to do what took me a day or two to do with VB 6.0.

garysorrell -> RE: Time is always the issue... (9/26/2008 12:06:38 AM)

Im now 42, had my first child in 1990, and my 3rd in 2004. So, it was a BIG wakeup call when we had the little guy. For me anyway, it was 14yrs between babies. And I was in the USN for my first son, so I missed some of the early 'fun'.
Anyway, when you are up at some ugly hour in the AM, the PC can be a big help in between the baby waking up every hour or so......congrats brother, I wouldnt trade my boys for anything.

jdhalfrack -> RE: Time is always the issue... (10/10/2008 3:01:25 AM)

My wife and I went to the doctor yesterday for our normal scheduled checkup and discovered that we had miscarried... [:(] Not a fun day yesterday... Please keep us (and especially her) in your prayers.

JD

garysorrell -> RE: Time is always the issue... (10/10/2008 3:03:39 AM)

Sorry, JD, so sorry to hear that. God bless you both.

bbmike -> RE: Time is always the issue... (10/10/2008 3:05:01 AM)

Oh my God, I'm so sorry to hear that. My deepest sympathies. I can't image what you are going through. My thoughts are with you and your wife.

therhino -> RE: Time is always the issue... (10/10/2008 3:51:59 AM)

Sorry JD know that must be hard.....

long_time_fan -> RE: Time is always the issue... (10/10/2008 5:08:20 AM)

I am so very sorry for your loss, JD.  I cannot imagine the pain you and your wife must feel right now.  Please accept my deepest sympathy.

Thats a big blow to take, been there buddy, not good
If I can suggest something to ya' (sounds a little cold, please dont take it that way)

after your wife (and yourself) have dealt with the initial pain
and she has any medical procedure she may have needed to make sure she is in full health
jump staight back in and keep trying

its so much easier to get caught pregenant again straight after a mis-carry
the hard part is the mental bit

I've been there and tried it, it work for me and my wife
and we have a beautiful daughter to show for it.

Blessings to you yours Brother man.

jdhalfrack -> RE: Time is always the issue... (10/10/2008 12:11:28 PM)

Mykal, that doesn't sound cold at all. In fact, my wife and I have already discussed this. Just briefly, as she really doesn't want to think about it too much yet. Thanks you for your advice and words!

Thank all of you for your words of sympathy. It really does mean a lot.

JD

Mykal -> RE: Time is always the issue... (10/10/2008 1:45:07 PM)

Ever Foward, never Backward
