Gil R. -> Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (9/25/2008 5:20:59 AM)

Thought I'd tease you all a bit by showing you something that will be included in the next FOF patch (currently in beta-testing). Since "Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition" will have a zoom feature (shown here: http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1853198 ), and this features has been requested for FOF multiple times, we figured we'd add it. Here are some shots of the strategic map being zoomed out. (Tactical-level zoom isn’t ready yet.)

(Regarding beta-testing, over time our original corps of testers has suffered some march attrition. If you have an interest in testing future patches, or perhaps even a FOF expansion if/when we get to that, please let me know. I’d like to start keeping a list of potential testing candidates.)

Here’s a regular view:

Gil R. -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (9/25/2008 5:21:29 AM)

And zoomed a bit:

Gil R. -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (9/25/2008 5:22:24 AM)

And all the way out (my two-thirds out screenshot was 2KB over the blasted 200KB limit, so I can't show that):

moose1999 -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (9/25/2008 7:31:59 AM)

How beautiful that map is when zoomed out - this is great news!
And you're even working on a zoom-function in detailed battles...? I feared that would have been too hard to do...
Great news indeed...!

marcbarker -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (9/25/2008 9:36:08 AM)

Gang Gil, you far surpassed my expectations, great work

CeltiCid -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (9/25/2008 10:08:50 AM)

Great!

BodyBag -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/2/2008 4:23:03 PM)

Hi Gil

You mention a tactical-level zoom,- I hope it will zoom in and not out.

Cheers,

Mutation2241 -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/2/2008 6:50:36 PM)

Screenies looking awesome :)

Gil R. -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/10/2008 5:13:34 AM)

Matrix has raised the maximum size for attachments for this forum, so JPEG's that exceed 200KB are no longer a problem. Therefore, I can now post the missing screenshot from the strategic-level zoom sequence:

Gil R. -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/10/2008 5:14:31 AM)

And, now I can post the tactical-level zoom shots. First, a normal view.

Gil R. -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/10/2008 5:15:01 AM)

Now, zoomed out a bit...

Gil R. -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/10/2008 5:15:26 AM)

...and a bit more...

Gil R. -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/10/2008 5:16:07 AM)

...and finally we get to the imaging of a top-secret NSA satellite.

moose1999 -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/10/2008 10:26:48 AM)

Wonderful, wonderful!
Not to sound greedy - but it would be quite fun to be able to zoom one more level in too...!
Getting a close-up look at those wonderful pixels and animations as the battle rages would really add a lot of atmosphere...
So if it's no big hazzle (which I'm suuure it's not...[;)]) - please consider adding that too...

Gil R. -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/11/2008 3:31:43 AM)

I checked, and zooming in more is not something we'll be adding. Just use a magnifying glass!

moose1999 -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/11/2008 9:01:23 AM)

I'll go out and by one immediately! [:)]

Lützow -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (10/15/2008 5:53:38 PM)

Those are good news indeed.

The lack of a zoomable map made it hard to keep track of forces for me. I'm going to reinstall FoF once the patch is released.

Gil R. -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (11/16/2008 8:48:00 AM)

It's been a while, so I thought I'd briefly give an update on the FOF patch. Despite our silence, we are indeed working on it, and feel that we're close. There's still a bug that needs to be fixed, but the main thing is to test a bunch of changes made to detailed combat. Our testing team is very much on the case, but since it's smaller than in its pre-release glory days we need to take a bit more time to make sure that the patch is indeed ready. On the plus side, this gives me time to edit a few more bios for it...

We're not going to promise a release date just yet, but I'd say that if the bug is easily fixed and no further programming is required to adjust the changes made to detailed combat it would be out later in the month.

PDiFolco -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (11/16/2008 5:07:44 PM)

Yep, great news, I played FoF lately and grumbled about the lack of a zoom feature, I didn't even think it was possible and, best,  underways and nearly done !
Great support from WCS, kudos ![:)]

2ndACR -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (11/17/2008 4:18:45 AM)

Patch........not that I have found really anything to gripe about. That is a great thing. So far, I have not had a complaint about anything.

Templer_12 -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (1/6/2009 3:59:32 AM)

Will there be a chance for a higher scren resolution, e. g. 1280 x 1024?

No, it's not currently planned.

Lützow -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (1/6/2009 12:50:04 PM)

Can you give us some details about patch status (i.e. when it's done) ?

Titanwarrior89 -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (1/6/2009 11:21:24 PM)

It looks excellent.  Great work.[;)]

WCS was on a programming hiatus over the holidays, so we need to test one more build and the patch should be ready. At this point, the only hold-ups are fixing some minor glitches in a new feature we added and, with that fixed, testing some AI changes. We'll keep you posted!

GenChaos33 -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (3/5/2009 4:33:22 AM)

Yes, found this thread. I thought so. Can't wait.

Edit: I hope/assume the zoom level is saved as a preference(always stays at level set)

Ironclad -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (3/5/2009 12:32:15 PM)

No it returns to normal view, but its very easy to use and during play one tends to use different zoom levels from time to time, I find that is particularly the case during detailed battle.

GenChaos33 -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (3/5/2009 7:51:06 PM)

Amazing how a zoom lock feature is rarly done in games. The strat map view kills it for me, it too hard to look at so up close. I hate always resetting the view that I like too. Please WCS, if you cannot make it an option than let me know how to go into the program and manually set the zoom level for the strat map.

Ironclad -> RE: Zoooooooooooommmm!!!!!! (3/6/2009 12:46:30 PM)

Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I meant it returns to normal on reloading a save. During play it will usually remain at whatever level you select.
