Finally I have the time to really get into this game.

First question - When trying to play the game over the internet i get the error message:
*Could not select service provider because of error - DPERR_GENERIC* Any one know whats that means and how to fix it?

Second question - In a pbem game - do you lose the ability to fight detailed battle?
If so I think that really ruins the game of this detailed nature.

It's a generic network error; it means that the TCP/IP library we're using (DirectPlay 4.0 by Microsoft) encountered a connection error and cannot provide any more specific information about it. Unfortunately (as I did not write the Microsoft library) I don't have any particular information as to what sort of errors this might be.

Yes, there are no detailed battles in PBEM; given the way detailed battles are structured right now, it's simply not feasible to play them via PBEm -- a single medium sized battle would involve over 1000 e-mail exchanges. For a forthcoming project we are working on modifying the detailed battle phase structure to make it ammenable to PBEM play.
