kingwanabee -> Matrix Fall Release Schedule (9/28/2008 3:58:00 PM)

I was wondering if we could get some idea what might be on the Matrix release calender for this christmas season. Usually October/November are busy game release months and December/January are pretty slow. It looks from following the "Coming Soon" section of the forums that there may not be much coming out this Fall.

Here are my guesses:
Commander-Napoleon at War - This is nearly done and should arrive in October. (Unfortunately, I have no interest in Napoleonic games)
Eagle Day to Bombing the Reich - 30% chance to arrive this Fall. Wow, Matrix has been working on this remake for 3 years! I thought it was close to release 2 years ago? (I'll probably buy this one....whenever)
Battles from the Bulge - I'm guessing 50/50 chance to make it this Fall. Arjuna has been steadily plugging away, but real life and a computer upgrade have slowed him down. His forum communications have been very good. (Definite buy)
Nothing else in the "Coming Soon" area appears to be near release.

WITP: Admirals Edition - I think this has a 50/50 or better chance of making it this Fall. They are currently working on improving the AI. (Definite buy)

Did I miss anything? I'm hoping to get some kind of official word on the Matrix gameplan. David or Erik?

Thanks[:)]

There's a lot more that may be out before Christmas, but with the disruption we had this summer between conventions and half the company moving, we have not been as proactive about communicating as we had been in the past. We should have more news for you all in the next few weeks.

Oh, now that's not nice Erik. [:-] "Some more news ... in the next few weeks." Tease![sm=Christo_pull_hair.gif]

To kingwanabee, remember that WitP/AE isn't being worked on by Matrix (neither are any of the others, but still...). It's are being PUBLISHED by Matrix, but AE is a part-time labour of love, by fans for fans. Because we're not working on it 24/7, it's taking a looooong time. Same with Eagle Day, I believe.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Matrix Fall Release Schedule (9/28/2008 7:38:33 PM)

Terminus - you're only partly right there. WITP AE does get a fair amount of time from Matrix as well, in a variety of areas, though we are a small portion of the overall hours put into the project by the AE team. Nevertheless, how much time we can put into help the development team and coordinate all the pre-release tasks often has a significant effect on the eventual release timeframe.

That's usually the case with most projects that have independent development teams and when we get really busy and our resources are stretched thin, release schedules often do slide a bit.

Regards,

- Erik

Thank you for your response. I want to assure you that I understand the difference between a developer and a publisher, and I know that Matrix doesn't develop all of the games they sell. However, a publisher usually has an idea several months out about their release schedule. I also understand that this schedule can change when development hits a snag.

RE Eagle Day: These games were purchased from Talonsoft 3 years ago by Matrix. Matrix owns Eagle Day and is letting some one else update it, so Matrix should have a decent idea of where the game is at in regards to release. It is difficult to tell from reading the forum.

RE Admiral's Edition: I understand that for you and the other unpaid beta testers that AE is a labor of love. As far as I can tell there will be a significant price tag on AE, so Matrix plans on making some $$$. It's not quite right to categorize something as a "labor of love" when it is also a labor of $$$. Therefore, once again, they hopefully have a general idea as to a release date.

Hi Erik -
so......what's the good news?

kingwanabee -> RE: Matrix Fall Release Schedule (10/27/2008 1:46:02 PM)

hmm.......it's been a month now and I'm still curious. I noticed that the new Close Combat game is being released this week. I might have to wait awhile though because my gaming dollars will probably go to Fallout 3 this week.

or maybe I'll buy 2 games and run up my "national debt"......[;)]

Well, I'll pick up the slack for you with CC:WaR then. I'm going to get it the day it's released. [:)]

Any news to report as to what we can look forward to this holiday season at this point, Erik?
Thanks!![:)]

Since my original post, you've seen the release of Commander: Napoleon at War, Close Combat: Wacht am Rhein and World War One: La Grande Guerre.

We were hoping War in the Pacific: Admiral's Edition and Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition would also make it in time for Christmas to put a big finish on the year, but they're still in final testing and polishing, so I'm afraid those will be 1Q 2009 releases at this point.

Our next pre-Christmas release is Hired Guns, which is a great turn-based tactical combat game in the spirit of Jagged Alliance.

We're also finalizing our big Christmas sale plans, so check back before Thanksgiving for news on that.

Regards,

- Erik

Boy ain't that the truth after my third. I have decided that wargames are a much better investment.
