As with CEAW, it's around 20 days per turn and units are roughly Corps sized.

How many leaders?

Varies by nation, but there are quite a few.

Can they be killed/wounded?

Yes, if the unit they are attached to is destroyed.

Weather scale?

Not sure what you mean here, but there's a dynamic weather system with individual storm fronts and hex by hex weather.

Ship scale?

Squadrons, I'd say.

Thanks Erik.  That about sums it up.  Trying to decide to buy or not.[:)]

Now if we can just find a way to incorporate the Tiller tactical battles into CNAW I will be a happy man. Something like For Liberty, but with a more realistic tactical model. But -- and I mean this -- it's great to have another Napoleonic game to try. At least until WITP AE arrives!

Would it be entirely impossible to produce a Napoleon: Total War ? I played Rome TW to death and I think it could be adapted to the 1800's fairly easily.

Empire: Total War is currently slated to come out this February. [:)] Best part is that naval warfare will be tactical and not an automated process where you're hoping your fleet doesn't get sent to the bottom on what feel like a single roll of the die. It'll definiely be pretty, but I just worry as the guys at Creative Assembly have been steadily aiming more towards the common populace with each game and so they have been suffering in terms of complexity, historical accuracy, and pacing.

If you want a fast-playing, fun Napoleonic Grand Strategy game in the style of CEAW and Panzer General, I would suggest Commander: Napoleon at War.

If you want a more hard-core realistic simulation down to the last details, keep an eye on the upcoming Crown of Glory: Emperor's Edition (which also has tactical naval combat).

Moltke71 -> RE: What Scale? (10/12/2008 3:15:28 PM)

What is the hex scale? Thanks.

Adam Parker -> RE: What Scale? (10/13/2008 9:55:12 AM)

The hex scale is extremely abstract. As I posted somewhere in one of my threads, it's 5 hexes from Paris to Brussels. Sit a French arty unit 2 hexes outside Paris and the bomb shelters in Brussels go into business. A very weird scale indeed.

CNaW is a game in which you move highly abstract units, across a highly abstract hex scale and conduct highly abstract combat to take cities. That's the game in a nutshell. You could be moving units of widgets for what its worth. (And there are no linked scenarios).

Is it fun? It's a handy diversion that does not tax the brain.

Doc o War -> RE: What Scale? (10/14/2008 6:13:49 AM)

Want a bit more complexity- try Gary Grigsbys War Between the States.  The game seems simple- it isnt- there is a lot too it,  and once you begin to see that complexity weaving into the play it just unfolds- excellent game- though not really for someone who wants quick fast tactical action- it is a stragetic level game battling month by month over several years.- but it has tactical applications that are a lot of fun. Check it out sometime- they just got done doing a major fix on the release version that cleaned it up nicely.

Erik Rutins -> RE: What Scale? (10/14/2008 3:31:34 PM)

The scale is definitely abstracted from a gameplay standpoint to allow the Panzer General style combat, giving a tactical Napoleonic feel on the strategic map. However, (Johan can correct me on this if I'm wrong) my best estimate from taking a look at the map is that each hex is about 30 miles or so.

- Erik
