mikul82 -> Close Combat Cross of Iron Install Problem (10/24/2008 8:51:43 PM)

I posted this first in the CC CoI tech forum but it seems to be totally dead, and maybe someone can help me here. Someone had made this post a while back:

"On trying to reinstall COI because of issues, I get the following error:
"The following file is in use and cannot be updated C:\WINNT\system32
\oleaut32.dll. Close all applications and choose retry. Choose cancel to
install this file on reboot." I have to hit cancel to continue. Then I get
this error:
"The following file is in use and cannot be updated C:\WINNT\system32
\olepro32.dll. Close all applications and choose retry. Choose cancel to
install this file on reboot." I have to hit cancel to continue again."

And his problem was resolved when he turned off his AntiVirus software. I'm having the exact same issue and have no AV software installed or running, just can't get the game to install after reformatting my PC a few weeks ago (it's running WinXP). I've tried installing in safe mode as well with no luck, it says something about installing the problematic files on reboot but doesn't auto-install when my system starts back up, and re-running the installer just restarts the whole sequence. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it!

mlc, I did a little googling and found these two sites that seemed to offer some info:

http://www.auditmypc.com/process/oleaut32.asp

http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintaskspro/dlllibrary/oleaut32/

That being said, before I start disabling .dll files, I would install good AntiVirus software and do a full system scan. Nobody should be connected to the internet without having both a good AntiVirus program installed, and a good firewall.

Thanks for the links! Do you know of a good free firewall program to download? I like AVG for Antivirus protection, it's free and doesn't use up much RAM either.

Why do you say that?

Chalk it up to a wacky schedule, bi-phasic sleep (which makes 1-2 days end up feeling like a whole week!), and sheer jackassery on my part [;)] I responded in the official forum, still can't seem to fix it yet.
