testcase4321 -> One of the last super annoying game mechanics (11/2/2008 6:28:45 PM)

I havent seen anything posted about this recently, so thought I would bring it up as a game bug, although Im not quite sure if 'bug' is the appropriate term.

This happens every time I am at war with another nation and Im beating the crap out of them. As I run through and start dropping garrisons in some of their conquered properties, the controlling nations morale drops into the 'Instability' area. Before that conquered nation reverts to control under me, it goes 'neutral'. Then, since I have a garrison in that neutral nation I cant declare war against it. Nor can I pick the garrison back up. Its very annoying. Is this how it is supposed to happen or am I missing something?

Eh, yeah, this is a problem. I think in earlier versions if you had even a garrison in the country when it went neutral you'd get control; then that changed. I'm not sure which is supposed to be right, but certainly if you don't get control and the country goes neutral your garrison should be repatriated.

I found that you *can* get it back, but it's a little complicated. The reason you can't pick it up during your land phase its that when the country goes neutral, the garrison isn't a garrison anymore: it's moved to the *rural* area. (Yes, this is clearly a bug, though I don't think it's been reported.) If you move into the area and stay there then on the next *reinforcement* phase, you can use the transfer unit-to-unit button to pick up the non-garrison garrison.

This is a known bug, #54, fixed in 1.04.01. I suggest you update to the latest beta where it's fixed.

May have come back...I saw this several times in 1.04.07, I think. However, I can't test now as I've just downgraded to 1.03 for a pbem game. When 1.04 becomes official I'll see if I can dup it and post a report.

Actually, I am playing the most up-to-date version of this piece of crap game. I'll be happy to post on Mantis if youd like.

The sad part is that for some reason, I continue to think that my spotting stupid crap like this will make a difference and that maybe, way wayyyy down the road this game will become playable. Until then, however, I feel like Im beating my head into a wall. . ..

I would certainly love to see a saved game here (Before the minor is lost) since a garrison / corps should prevent it from going neutral. It should goto the nation controlling the corps / garrison.

Apologize for the frustration...

It will and does make a difference. A lot of issues have been fixed thanks to saves and reports submitted by the community. Some few do slip through the cracks or get "unfixed" but overall once it's fixed, it's fixed.

OK, I've updated again to 1.04.07 and confirmed this bug. Save posted to Mantis.

Got it fixed! Thanks for the save!
