spruce -> Cannibal corps (11/2/2008 6:35:04 PM)

I know this is some name of Hard Rock group or Horror movie - but in my CSA Game it acutally happened.

I had Twiggs in Tenessee as corps commander - a 11 CP leader. I had Lovel move up to the province to take his command - Lovel is also a 11 CP leader. I had Twiggs attached to Lovel, the artillery attached to Twiggs was still there - but Twiggs or Lovel had eaten all infantry brigades. More then 10.000 soldiers eaten by their corps commanders !

A bloody day of shame for the Confederacy !

Where were they posted when this atrocity took place? Hannibal Lecter Missouri? [&:]

Sounds like you send the saved game if you can to the developers.

I'll send it to Erik Rutins - it's saved just after the Cannibal Corps commander struck ! IIRC it's the province of Humbold - anyhow just look for Twiggs and Lovel.

ps = there was also a general there named Slaughter ! [:D]

Really ! It's no joke - I just send the save file to Erik.

Slaughter is a powerful Arty leader.
You should have posted this in the tech support anyway surely Erik will take care of that. [:)]

Did you have an autosave with which to go back, redo the same move and see if it happens again?

ok, next time I'll post in tech support.

Anyhow, it was also a bit funny to notice ! [:D]

Erik sent me the save. Do you have a save from the beginning of the turn, and can you recreate the problem from this save. If so, please send to 2by3@2by3games.com. As a workaround, I was able to get the units back by moving Slaughter out of the area. One infantry unit shows up, and I can attack it to Lovell and then another shows up. By doing this I can get the 5 missing infantry back on the board. I'd like to know how you got this to happen if you can recreate it. Usually, when units disappear (it's rare, but has happened a few times), you should try detaching all units from the suspect leaders on the 2nd level top pop-up, and then try moving some leaders/units out of the area until the "lost" units start appearing. Then attach them to a leader that hasn't had a problem.

hm, that will be difficult to find.

But I'm pretty sure I can recall the details.

I started to detach some units from Twiggs - then I got tired of doing so and I choose Lovel and attached Twiggs to Lovel (which is perfectly viable) - all a sudden the artillery was put in the region (non eatable) and the infantry were eaten - alive !

could be that I did the artillery manually and the rest was left with Twiggs before I assigned him to Lovel.

If you can find a sequence that duplicates the problem (with or without the same leaders/units), and can get us a save we could use to duplicate the problem, it would help tremendously.

I tried from on older save game and I wasn't able to recreate the bug. It seems general Slaughter is the key issue in this bug.

If you look at the save file I send to you guys - just after the bug happened, you'll find out that Slaughter has the "eaten" units attached. You can't see them in the top window because he has cp 1 - but if you click on Slaughter you'll find all the missing infantry brigades attached to them - you see this in the second roll out menu.

I really suspect you guys from pulling some sick Halloween joke - Slaughter takes 5 infantry brigades ! Can it be more ridiculous...

Seriously - something weird happened when I attached Twiggs to Lovel, that I'm sure off - the rest is somewhat unsure to me. Altough my recreation from on older game always yielded me Slaughter as the artillery leader to be activated when I tried to fulfill my CSC support rules. A good explanation would be that Slaughter was either already attached to either Twiggs or Lovel - when I attached Twiggs to Lovel.

Any news on the bug ?

How come Slaughter got these 5 brigades attached as this is way beyond his CP limit ?

My experience is that trying to design an algorithm to do this sort of thing directly is very finicky. It's usually better to structure it out of steps that are already known to work.

Joel Billings -> RE: Cannibal corps (11/9/2008 5:10:32 PM)

This bug, or some variation of it has been around for a long time and we have never been able to track it down or duplicate it in a repeatable way. Many attempts were made to try to understand it and all have failed as we can never duplicate it. If you have a save and can walk us through certain steps that lead to a problem, we will make another attempt to find the root of the problem. I wish I had a better answer for you as we would like to be able to fix this problem.
