Will WITP run on Vista?

Will the new AE run on Vista?

I don't see this addressed anywhere and system requirements only appear to list older operating systems

khyberbill -> RE: Vista (11/8/2008 7:46:20 PM)

I am running WITP on Vista.

Mobeer -> RE: Vista (11/8/2008 7:55:14 PM)

I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit and it works fine for me.

Gem35 -> RE: Vista (11/8/2008 11:27:15 PM)

Vista has been a pain but really since time is our friend and Microsoft can be our friend, Vista is not all that bad anymore.
Use it with confidence.

Morval_slith -> RE: Vista (11/9/2008 2:21:32 PM)

I'm finding that Combat Animations don't work; the display does not update. Is anyone else having this problem?

hbrsvl -> RE: Vista (11/9/2008 2:31:29 PM)

Gem35-I'm glad all of you are getting Vista to work-I have not.

I'm trying to install CHS on a brand new HP laptop with Vista factory installed, scads of memory, etc. I've been trying to follow Andrew's manual installation instructions, but have a problem.

Trying to install the first map, 6.2, I get hung up in the ModSelect area. When the screen "Install backup maps", etc. comes up either it says it won't work, or when I hit "b" as instructed it goes back to the original question. It won't back up maps, which is first step in installation. I've tried copying maps, scenarios, etc. from an existing CHS installation on a PC, but they don't work, either. These copies are from an XP computer.

Anyone, help, please.

Thanks, Hugh Browne

Don't use ModSelect with Vista, it won't work. Copy the files manually into a separate install.

hbrsvl -> RE: Vista (11/9/2008 4:23:03 PM)

Terminus-Thanks. Let me tell you where I am & see if you(or others) can help.
1. Following Andrew's Manual installation instructions, I have-
2. Created a folder "Maps_Official". It resides in WITP game folder.
3. Cut & pasted into the Maps folder the following-
a.WITN 0-19.
b.Jump map 33.
c. map revisions 800 & 1024.
d.pickmap1024.
e. PW hex_std._6.3.
f. PWhex_std.(this is a zip file.) All of these are per Andrew's instructions.

It is at this point I ran into the MapMod problem.
So, please, where do I go from here? As you say, Map Mod doesn't work.
Also, do I have to follow the same proceedure for the other components, such as extended map, CHS base, CHS base 2, etc.?

Many thanks, Hugh Browne

1. Make sure that you install WitP in the default directory (just don't change the default that the loader sets); it will not work very well in Program Files

2. It has been a while since I installed CHS, but IIRC there are close to a hundred files (or at least so many that it seemed like a hundred [:)]) that have to be moved manually. Just keep patiently moving them until there are none left to move; if you move some that do not need to be moved, the program won't care, but if you fail to move any that need to be moved you will get strange results. The destination folders are fairly obvious since most replace existing files.

Crimguy -> RE: Vista (11/25/2008 2:16:30 AM)

Using Vista, I'm finding WitP to have 1-2 second delays when in windowed mode and switching to it from another application.  I'm running it in XP SP2 compatability mode if that makes a difference.

AE runs fine on Vista. Its not as bad as the press it's gotten has described it.....that is, once you disable all the idiot-proofing features. Then its much like XP.

ringerthrawn -> RE: Vista (12/21/2008 11:40:41 PM)

I am having problems with my new system, which runs Vista 64. When I run WITP, the intro video plays inside of the splash screen. Then the text is all inverse colored and doesn't refresh very well. When I play it is very choppy and the screen doesn't change at all. I have been playing since the game came out years ago, but it was on a XP system. I have the latest patches and 4 gigs of ram, so it is not memory (or CUP - have a duo 2 T9600). Any ideas?

ringerthrawn -> RE: Vista (12/21/2008 11:45:01 PM)

Hmm....I got it to run normally, but only by using the Windowed mode option. Wonder why that is. Is it because my resolution is set too high (or the number of colors or something)? I have it at 1920x1200.
