Hmm, Well I'm new and I have experience with hex games. I've also downloaded it before but un-installed it.

I was just wondering if there are any good units or tactics or what not that I could use.:)

java addict (I can't spell cafiene) welcome aboard first of all.

What version of the game do you have installed? It is now patched up to ver 7.1.

Have you tried the tutorials that came with the game ?

You have come to the right place for answers, people on this forum will give a much assistance as it takes. . A word of warning SPWAW came be habit forming and we inmates/addicts will not be responsible.

Welcome to the forums!

You certainitly came to the right place.

As Chief says, the game tutorials are a great place to start, and once you've gotten a few of those under your belt you'll have a better understanding of the complexity of the game. It's not that we won't answer your question about tactics or units, it's just that for such a simple question it has such a gamut of possible answers. Look at it this way, last time I checked we had over 70k messages posted in this area, about 50 to 75% of which are debates over just what you asked. :)

And this particular version of the Matrix forums is only about 2 months old. :):)

Starting to get the idea? Yeah, we're a verbose lot, and we all have our particular "favorites", be they units, tactics, or both. But so much depends on when (what year/month of the war), where (Pacific, Europe, North Africa, Eastern Front, Western Front, etc), who (USMC vs Germans? ANZAC vs Japan? Or even something exotic like Finns vs Chi-Comms) and how (armor only? infantry? combination?) that there's no one "set" answer to your question.

Try the tutorials, then move on to some of the easier scenarios (Whitmann's Gamble has an entire thread describing it as better than sex) and read the posts in the forums. If you want, use the search feature of the forums to look up posts about a specific unit or subject. There's a veritable encyclopedia of information here, and experienced players who could best be described as "SPWAW Scholars" all ready and willing to help you enjoy the game. :)

Well I'm From Key West, I know that the patch 7.1 is out.
I'm downloading 6.0 then the 6.0 to the 7.0 patch then the 7.0 to 7.1 patch.
(Caffeine just has a silent e in the middle)
Reading some of the posts around the forums the game seems to be very complex. I've played Robert E. Lee: Civil War General, Soldiers at War....I'm more of a RTS and a FPS Fan, but I needed something different.

I like Massive Infantry battles, I'm not into air, armor or of support units (Unless Infantry Support Unit like BAR, Mortar, or MG).

Glad to have you with us, CA. You're gonna end up being CaffeineSPWAWMatrixForumAddict! Hard to sign checks with that long of a name. Got any specific questions for us?

Not yet, because I finished the first tutorial with this score:

U.S. Army/Germany
Men (Losses) 63/85
Apcs (Losses) 4/5
AFVs (Losses) 8/9

SCORE
U.S. Army 5602 Marginal Victory
Germany 1723 Marginal Defeat

I'd have to say it was quite a challenge Especially near the end, the Germans took back 2 Victory Locations, in the last 3 turns I re-captured them and sent thier armor crews on the run with my M1 Rifle Squads (Not Realistic, but was fun to see them kill APC's after the use of 5 moves.).

Oh, just thought of one, I tried to play Mega Campaigns. Is registering free? (I've heard you have to pay for something and I'm not sure what "It" is.) Or is SPWAW Totally free?

Mega Campaigns are add-on campaigns you can purchase (highly recommended!) from Matrix or your local retailer. You'll find info about them in other threads in the forum.

CaffeineAddict -> Dang... (4/21/2002 9:48:15 PM)

Oh I see...Well I don't think Office Max or Kmart will have them...:(

Probably not, but EBX does, and there's always mail order direct from Matrix.

CaffeineAddict -> Uhhh... (4/23/2002 6:39:29 AM)

The neared EBX is in West Palm which is a full day of driving...I knew about the mail order which seems to be my only option.

Larry Holt -> (4/24/2002 1:47:21 AM)

CaffeineAddict may I modestly suggest that you read my tactics guide at http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/spwaw_downloads.htm ?

Enjoy.

CaffeineAddict -> (4/24/2002 3:43:44 AM)

Thank you.

I finished capturing Mount Sarabatchi, as Marines vs. Japanese..It was fairly easy and I finished in 14 out of 45 turns.
