khyberbill -> Bombardment Question (11/12/2008 8:22:01 PM)

I am playing as Japan in a PBEM. We are playing Stock with Nik Mod and two day turns. I sent in a bombardment TF set at Patrol/DoNotRetire. The TF bombarded the night portion of the first turn and nothing thereafter. There is enough ammo. Is there a way to have this TF bombard for all four phases of the two day turn?

No. Bombardment TF's become Surface Combat TF's when they've executed their mission.

Doesn't the TF commander agression have some influence on how long they bombard before converting back to SCTF?

It must because I have had bombardment TF Bombard several times in a row. I've also had them do it only once, I often wondered what made the difference.

I think Patrol/DoNotRetire for bombardment cause Bombard TF to bombard continuosly. When on retire order TF will automatically switch to SCTF.
Change from Bombardment to SCTF due to aggresivenes of its commander comes to play when naval combat took place in the hex. Bombard TFs fight worse then SCTF and when the leader is aggresive enough he could cause to switch to SCTF to fight better.

My bombardment TF is set to patrol/do not retire. They bombard on the first night phase and then revert to SC mode. Now and then they bombard in the day phase.

I've seen Boimbardment TF's do both, on both settings; Even when given instructions to retire they have remained and bombarded for another day. Though that may have ben altered in one of the update patches. It has been awhile since I have seen this happen.
