How do you destroy abandoned vehicles?

Is there an advantage to destroying them? I think at the end of the game you get credit for abandoned units just like destroyed ones.

I believe it states in the manual that if you leave troops in the same hex as an abandoned vehicle, they will eventually destroy it. The speed at which this happens is dependent upon experience, unit type, etc. I, however, have never seen this happen, despite many tries. Was this feature removed?

Hi
If you move a unit in to the same hex as the vehicle, and stay there (undisrupted) for one turn, the vehicle is destroyed.
You don't get any additional points for this, but your opponent can't re-crew it. ;)

I read the same thing. It hasn't worked for me yet either

CaffeineAddict -> (4/24/2002 3:46:31 AM)

I was wondering about that too, Hmm thanks for telling me.

Much more fun to just kill the crew. :D

Page 31 of the manual:

"Some players felt that abandoned vehicles and guns should generate victory points.
Now, any units abandoned are considered destroyed,for victory point purposes, if that
side does not control the battlefield. Control of the battlefield goes to the side with the
most victory objective points. Abandoned vehicles can be destroyed by moving a unit into
the same hex and remaining for the full turn. If the unit passes an experience check, they
will destroy the abandoned unit at the end of the turn. The unit and leader spiking will
receive experience for the kill, although the leader will not receive a kill credit."

Read, folks, read ;)

Goblin, I am pretty sure I have seen this work as stated at least on two differant occasions. ;)

Onc joined in battle and vehicles become abandoned. Hmmm yes by moving men on to the hex and staying for one turn not being fired on or surppressed. yes this does work and the vehicle becomes destroyed and you recieve credit for 1 kill. A good way to do this is move your scouts on to the hex. As scouts are not good at killing and dont gain exp. too well. This will allow them an easy kill. Also if you are moving the enemy back and know where they are at basicly, your scouts dont have much to do anyways. I dont find that ,moving tanks are other vehicles on the hex works too well. Infantry,fos,engineers,mgs and other such troops works real good for this. Also your hqs like this kind of work. I call them the garbage collectors when they are engaged in this type of work. I must add only have seen this in long campaigns as i dont play scenarios.

Ok, thanks WhiteRook and robot. I will pay more attention, probably just missed it.:)

Wish I had read this before last night. I got those Germans to bail out of their Elephant but didn't persue them because it was so late in the battle and I had other VH's to take.

2 or 3 turns later...

BOOM! There goes a Sherman. ****!

Guess you should never turn your back on an injured Elephant.

Capt. Pixel -> True to my Idiom (4/26/2002 5:17:50 AM)

Hotseat is a great option in this game!

My paltry platoon of Pz IIIs rolled on up to my nasty SO SMG squads and, very conveniently I might add, bailed out of their tanks.

SO SMGs stepped forward, shot up the crews and entered the hexes with the abandoned vehicles. Some infantry moved through the hexes without stopping.

Moving through the hex is not sufficient - apparently you have to start your turn with the abandoned vehicle in order to make it a destroyed vehicle. The icon doesn't change appearance.

Oh, and, from another thread: A crew will only re-crew it's original vehicle, none other. :)

Cromort -> (4/29/2002 8:54:16 PM)

well i havent seen it happen yet,
but definitely i will try
and report;)
