JudgeDredd -> A suggestion (12/4/2008 11:11:30 PM)

in case it hasn't already been suggested...

Give some feedback on the battle please?

I've just played the second tutorial and assaulted a fortress. I had no idea of the outcome as it progressed. I placed the first unit on the assault stack and engaged. Some text popped up, in terrible yellow colour with some red text underneath it. Couldn't make out what either said and was more than a little annoyed when I noticed I was a unit down. What happened to it? Why don't I know what happened?

Come on peeps...get with it. Feedback. No-one likes to see counters disappear without some announcment as to why...and for you information, the announcment has to be legible and if it's in popup format, then either wait for a click from the user to dismiss it, or make the delay long enough to allow the user to read it!

And can you please for the love of god release your tutorial in pdf!

Some better idea of where on earth battles are occurring would also be good. The small minimap in the center of the battle screen is not sufficient to really understand where in the 45 degree tilted world the AI controlled battle is happening. Playing as the western allies, most of the time I had only a vague idea of where in Russia or Poland a battle was actually taking place, and no idea at all of the context that the battle was happening. Ie, is the battle an important one? Or just another east front skirmish. The map contains so many zones -- most looking like brown blobs -- that even the geographic context of the battles is being lost.

I know of what you speak-it is not easy to know exactly where the battle is going on. What I have done is to zoom out before hitting the button to start combat. The area included in the bino's view is connected to the surounding areas. If you pause for a moment before starting the battle with the tactical AI (I only use the tactical AI on defense anymore), you will be able to see right where the battle is taking place.

I have found the zoomed in view to be difficult to follow battle locations-especially on the Eastern Front.
