skypine27 -> Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/6/2008 4:14:47 AM)

I just capture the train station, and I can not get to the roof. I notice some stairs inside the building, but it will not let me climb them, to enter the roof up to.

Also, if I leave the building, so the roof is showing, I can also not click on the roof area to get to it that way. My guys just wont move there.

And how to you set the train fare? The only 2 NPCs with names I see are Jojo and some musican. The musican keeps asking for lower train fare, and all my guy will say is "Ohh, so the train station manager can set the fares, I'll see about that " or something like that. And jojo has nothing to say to me.

Any ideas?

Not sure about being able to get on the roof. I've only been able to do that during combat. Perhaps in real time mode this is disabled? I'll have to look into it.

As for being able to lower the fare - bear in mind that the Wisdom or Strength level of your character can somewhat dictate the responses you can give to people you talk to. Perhaps the train administrator isn't swayed (or afraid) of you enough for you to be able to get him to lower the train fare.

I'm not sure the Wisdom checking is working. I was unable to get the civilian (Rubani?) in the first sector to give me the reply option to get a free jeep, and my custom merc has a Wisdom of 80.

Did you read all your e-mail first? Did it give you the option to use the code phrase on him?

ShadoWarrior -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/6/2008 9:17:49 PM)

Yes, and no.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/6/2008 9:35:38 PM)

If you didn't get the code phrase option, then you must have missed the message that talked about it. That's not a wisdom requirement, it's just based on whether you read the right message before you talked to the guy.

ShadoWarrior -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/6/2008 9:37:46 PM)

Then something didn't trigger, because all my messages are marked as read. sigh

It's not a big deal. I'm not hard up for that $5,000. At least not at the moment, and I have positive daily cash flow.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/6/2008 9:39:24 PM)

Read your journal as well, I don't recall where the exact message is, but I've never had it not trigger if I read all the notes that you get before the first battle.

ShadoWarrior -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/6/2008 9:44:00 PM)

Been there, done all that. As I said, I'm not overly concerned. It's just another of the many small (or not so small, depending) oddities I've noticed while playing.

Koalab -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/7/2008 1:29:32 PM)

***** Minor spoiler *****

Mine has triggered every time so far.

You have to read the mail regarding the scout.

In tactical you then start by saying "onkel says hi"(or something along those lines)

Then you just have to say you don't care about his problems and he will give you the jeep. If you agree to killing the bandits you will have to either do that or pay 5000 for the jeep

ShadoWarrior -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/7/2008 2:20:47 PM)

The free jeep worked fine when I started a new game.

skypine27 -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/9/2008 2:35:01 AM)

I was able to figure out the roof/ train station fare problem (unrelated to the jeep issue you guys are talking about, thats in a different section)

All I had to do was leave the Train Station sector, read some email, and then re-enter it.  Then magically, the "manager" character appeared in the main room of the station.  I talked to him and lowered the fare, then re spoke with the musiscan.  He was happy, and agreed to let me meet the "Cheif" character out west on the map.  I met with him, and he asked me to find one of his friends that was captured somewhere down south.  I captured the coastal city and the port, but have not found his friend yet.  Ohh well.

Now Im stuck on taking the airport road.  That is a B i T c H.  How many mercs do you need for that sector??

SeanD -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/9/2008 4:53:50 AM)

The airport road is a beeyotch - no doubt.

The AI nades you to high heaven since you start off so close to them. My advice would be to approach from the side closest to the bunker and the dense woods (it's also conveniently the highest point in the map on that side). Deploy your guys spread out as much as you can at the top of that hill and NADE LIKE CRAZY if you can. Since you can throw downhill easier and the enemies have the same disadvantage of having to clump up to get a shot at you. Basically I avoided open spaces where multiple guys could get a bead on you so it make them bunch up to get a clear shot.

As for avoiding the nades - the simple answer is to spread your guys out and keep them prone. You'll have to stand up every now and then to reacquire enemy positions since you lose a lot of LOS when prone - but staying next to a big tree and keeping on your belly can go a long way.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/9/2008 9:20:50 AM)

go to knees from prone, I believe it costs less and costs less to go back to prone

(if there are any ACC mods in there, Prone is most Acc, Kneeling next, and then Offhand, or standing the least, offhand fire should only be for pointblank, or assult/mopup times)

Joram -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (12/9/2008 1:32:40 PM)

Just was looking for this thread and see you figured it out.  Yes, you have to leave and then come back to find the manager.

OthelloNYC -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (10/13/2011 5:09:06 AM)

I left then read the email then came back, but I have seen no station manager. Do you have to talk to the musician as well?

SSgtRobertMorris -> RE: Help: Cant climb on roof or set Train Fare (1/6/2012 11:52:34 PM)

The manager is inside tha train station when you re enter the area.
