EYEATEYOU -> bugs bugs and more bugs (12/6/2008 10:15:26 PM)

I had the game crash when I entered the first zone at the start of the game. Upon reload my custom character's stats were completely changed and some how I ended up with 100 strength! but that also meant that I had zero scores in other stats that I had 35 or more in before the crash. I also lost ALL of the equipment I bought and it was not laying in the zone or back in the store. I've also had equipment disappear on exit of maps and off of bodies that I search. For instance I kill a guy and then search his body and take everything he's carrying. then I reload and kill the guy again but he then has nothing on his body. I tried killing a guy and then taking a few things and leaving a few still on him. I then reloaded and killed the guy again and the stuff I took before the reload was gone but the stuff I left was there.

Shotguns (and the shooting mechanic as a whole) seems to be broken. 5 feet from an enemy and 3 of my mercs with shotguns couldn't even hit the guy at ALL. reloaded and tried multiple times and still cannot hit ANYONE once. My mercs have any where from 60-85 accuracy. It doesn't matter the distance, amount of aiming points, or anything. even using a M1-Garand or any smg with good range I can't hit anyone with any significant damage, if at all. Even on the lowest difficulty setting and the enemy was shooting me for 20-30 points every time. They very rarely miss.

Hand to hand/ melee is a mess too. I completely miss with a hand to hand specialist or the enemy will walk right up to me and kill me in one turn. Also the physics are wonky because critical hits can send people flying absurd distances with only taking 10 points damage! Still I found I could kill everyone easier using hand2hand/melee than shooting them. now that just seems wrong in every way.

So disappointed in this game. I feel like I've wasted $30 on a game I can't enjoy in any aspect. The shooting mechanics need to be solid. Either I miss a lot for good reason or I destroy the enemy because I should. The same goes for the enemy or anyone. If they can kill me in one turn, I should be able to do the same or close to it with no problem. There is something wrong with the calculations going on behind the scenes and it's a deal breaker for not just me but many people I'm sure.

Erik Rutins -> RE: bugs bugs and more bugs (12/6/2008 10:35:26 PM)

I have to say that what you describe doesn't correspond to the game as I know it at all and I know I won't be able to duplicate these issues as a result without some save files. Can you please e-mail me (erikr@matrixgames.com) some saves that highlight these reported issues so that we can figure out why they're happening to you and fix them?

I'm sorry for the bad experience you're having, I can only say that the game does not play like this for me.

I'm moving this to the bug forum.

Could you also post a DxDiag file please? Thanks.

Regards,

- Erik

Koalab -> RE: bugs bugs and more bugs (12/7/2008 1:05:49 AM)

I agree on quite a few of the points he's making. I find the game ridiculously hard. Im playing on normal level and have just taken the northern base. I then move back to the roadblock which i am unable to move thru. So i have to take up the battle. On that map there are about 14-18 oponents. And quite a few start near me. Sometimes they get to throw grenades before i can even move. If im first in the round i am able to take out about one guy in one round with six mercs. Most of the shots that land make only around 4-8 points of damage.

I usually last about 4 rounds before so many opponents are in range and lobbing grenades(Which never misses) that my squad is turned into minced meat. This is the second fighting mission in my game, and it will take me forever to get thru that roadblock. This problem, and the fact that the game crashes at about every third game load, makes the going VERY tedious.

I have also seen enemy's throw grenades at about 3 times the length of which i am able to throw grenades.

There are doors i am unable to move through. I have seen mercs use up all their action points trying to run around a tree, my squads have vanished from the strategic map.

I dont know. I hope im just doing something very very wrong. Im usually very good at these types of games, and have played them all.

***EDIT****

And yes i have read the FAQ. And I am using max aim

I've been playing on easy, and the game plays much more like you'd expect. Half as many enemies as you've seen.

I do see the 2-8 points of damage you mention, but that's if the shot hits an arm (4) or helmeted head (2) or leg (4-8). Torso or head hits on unarmored enemies scores 16+ points.

Grenades are the one thing that I live in fear of. Let an enemy get too close and bad stuff happens. Boom. The enemies do seem to have an absurd amount of accuracy throwing them. But what I find even worse is that the enemies can run at you from a fair distance and take several unarmed attacks on you that are devastating. The enemies seem to have significantly more APs than our own mercs do.

In reply to EYEATEYOU, ShadoWarrier, and Koalab,
Please see my post(s) under "Bug Report".  I'm having similar "weapons platforms", movement, Action Point, and "disappearing" problems.  Please give me your opinions.  Thanks.

Hard Sarge -> RE: bugs bugs and more bugs (12/7/2008 12:30:33 PM)

for weapon damage, are you only seeing it on the first map, or on all of them ?

I noticed on the 2nd map and 3rd, that the weapons did seem to work better (plus for what it is worth, leg shots seem better then chest shots

will agree that my guy with a fancy auto Shotgun has only scored one or two hits in 3 battles (after first battle he picked up a H&K 5 and uses both now)

ShadoWarrior -> RE: bugs bugs and more bugs (12/7/2008 2:33:17 PM)

The reason leg shots may seem to work better is that if an enemy is wearing body armor, your shotgun blast won't do much harm to his chest in this game. Which is very odd, considering that the "standard" 12-76 rounds for the shotgun are slugs, not buckshot. (I've got some buckshot that I haven't used yet, and it's labeled as buckshot.) Hollowpoints (labeled as "OC" ammo) are devastating against unarmored foes. Almost every enemy wears a helmet, so aim for the chest or legs. Arm hits, even with hollowpoints, just seem to nick the enemy and piss them off.

Moltke71 -> RE: bugs bugs and more bugs (12/7/2008 3:23:46 PM)

The docs warn you to start on "easy". I didn't notice any weap problems. I won the first scenario by making friends with the soldiers and letting them do most of the heavy lifting, then I spread my guys out, waited for the head bad guy to come on to the porch and then had my skilled pitcher grenade everything. Finesse is better than brute force.

Erik Rutins -> RE: bugs bugs and more bugs (12/7/2008 3:57:28 PM)

Leg shots also have the advantage of knocking the enemy down and costing them APs, which means that next round they're likely to be able to do less in terms of return fire. I often go for leg shots if I'm close enough and have an accurate enough weapon/merc to not just aim for the torso.

ShadoWarrior -> RE: bugs bugs and more bugs (12/8/2008 7:14:44 AM)

I don't know if this is a bug, but the two transport-related upgrades in the Coastal City do not produce the bonus they say they will. "Transport Net" gives $1500 instead of $2000, and Sea Terminal gives $1000 instead of $3000.This is unfortunate because those two upgrades cost $10k each. Is there something going on (besides our insurrection) that's preventing getting the full bonus?

Trifler -> RE: bugs bugs and more bugs (12/8/2008 12:04:24 PM)

After completing the North Road, I drove straight to the Safari. When I arrived, I had no option to go into the Tactical view at Safari, nor to drive anywhere else. I finally reloaded and drove to the Roadblock first and then to the Safari and it worked fine. A possible fix for this would be to remove the ability to drive to Safari until you have driven to the Roadblock. Note I didn't have to go into the Tactical view at the Roadblock, just drive there in the Strategic view.

1.After arriving one of the location by the jeep, message displays "Hyena's have arrived". After that it turns into a small green coin, and i can't enter the zone or move my squad.
2.I noticed I can not enter the houses in north base. I can open the door, but once I click a location inside the house the squad member just can not move into the house. In the battle mode I see a small timer icon displays and disappears after I click a location inside the house, and in the normal model nothing displays, just the squad member can not move into the house.

I was able to drive to Safari before Roadblock and enter it in tactical mode.
