DONMVP -> Moving a team from 1 city to another in league (12/9/2008 10:33:30 AM)

Its probally been stated some where in forum . But time limited some here at moment . Ok heres what i`m wondering ,I`m recreating 1960 nfl and Afl teams with as accurate rosters as i can make . Anyway theres a few teams who move after a season or 2 , like chargers , texans, and the titans change their name . Anyway what i`m wondering , after first season chargers leave LA for SAN DIEGO , Now if i edit the team name in access , or team edit in the league. Will everything be ok , or will players go into free agency and have to be resigned . Also will team records be ok . Never finished a season so don`t know what to expect . Hopefully by Monday i can send League file to FBMAX , for others to enjoy. Still have to adjust rosters on 6 teams then redo players speed on a few players. At lease i`m hoping i can get it done by then , moving this weekend , not sure if have a comp working this weekend yet . So anybody can answer those question appreciate it .

First, I would just edit via Access. That way, when the game is started, it just keeps on rollin like nothing happened [8D]
Secondly, to relocate a team, all you need to edit is city, abbreviation, and geographic location. And nickname, if name is changing.
As long as you dont tamper with the teams id number...it will have no affect on anything else. The game only really uses the team ID number.
The players are assigned to a team via the team id number, so like I said, if you dont change that, they will remain on the team regardless of where you move it to.

So, you could even simulate a move mid season, old WFL style. The schedules and all are based on the team ID number, so it wouldnt cause a problem.

The team is saved by the team ID number.

Changing the team name or location should not affect the stats, players, or profiles.

Speaking of editing the database via Access, what IS safe to edit in the league file? I have a corrupt file that I would like to reset/edit manually. Can I safely delete all of the players, teams, divisions, etc. that I want? Or should I rebuild from scratch to avoid future problems. Would rebuilding from scratch make simulating the games faster?

slightly off subject..............

can you add in an expansion team manually in the same way
and if doing so, do you need to manually assign a team ID number for the team to seen in the game

cos I've been thinking of expanding my canadian league, when I eventually get to the end of season one [;)]

Mykal, it does that automatically. Sometimes, if I am building a large league, I do it completely in access. So yes, you can add a team anytime in that way also. You could even add a team midseason(why, who knows...but ya can). The schedule is already set, so the new team would just 'be there'. It wouldnt be scheduled unless you added it manually, or entered a new season.

Kewl thanks Gary

on the schedule point
is a new schedule automatically made at the start of a new saeson ?
or will I have to rebuild the schedule in order to incorporate the new team(s)

not that thats a problem I'm well adept at making schedules
just for warned is for armed - if ya' know what I mean

garysorrell -> RE: Moving a team from 1 city to another in league (12/10/2008 1:07:19 AM)

It generates a new schedule when you hit 'start new season'

Thats why any team additions or subtractions need to be done prior, so MaxFB will take the changes into account when generating a new schedule.

Kewl, thanks man
I'm actually enjoying this game again at the moment [;)]

It seems like editing the database manually is fairly safe. I deleted all of the players and stats from my corrupted NCAA file and compressed it. It went from 170MB down to about 300KB. I fired up the game with low expectations but was able to load the league and start a new season. Everything seems to working fine! I still think this game is diamond in the rough. I hope someone will come along and finish polishing it up. I'm also still having fun with this game.[:D]

Kewl, glad your getting somewhere Bud

Im having fun with my Pacifica league. And I also have a small outdoor 8 man league with myself on one of the teams. It's just fun to be able to do so much. I get too caught up in focusing on the faults, and forget what a great product we have. I agree with bbmike and his diamond in the rough comment. Absolutely.

Mykal -> RE: Moving a team from 1 city to another in league (12/10/2008 9:07:51 PM)

Agreed, now that I've sorted my constants file
I'm really enjoying watching some of the games play out
(yep I actually sit and watch the games that my team are not in)

Sacks are right down to realistic levels, punt returns all but eliminated (thanks to the wait command)
and QB's thinking on their feet instead of just standing their like dumb smucks and taking sacks

really fun to watch
