Yurg -> RE: Hired Guns v1.07.001 Public Beta Now Available! (12/11/2008 11:36:28 PM)

Will we be able to install the official patch over the top of the beta?

Am thinking of updating but don't want to start a new game each time so might wait for final release... Anyone tried the patch using their old savegames?

ShadoWarrior -> RE: Hired Guns v1.07.001 Public Beta Now Available! (12/11/2008 11:49:26 PM)

@JSG: The update "button" on the launcher does actually work. But a beta patch is not meant to be automatically disseminated to everyone who has the game, hence why you won't find it as an update. It's an optional download, available only to people who specifically look for it (by coming here to the forums).

BTW, I didn't "refine" my definition of anything. You misquoted me, and I corrected you. Also, most games today still have copy-protection. Typically it's SecuROM, Tages, or (cough, gag) StarForce. The backlash against StarForce is what's forced most companies to rethink just how much they're willing to annoy the people buying their products. Regarding serial numbers, serial numbers aren't copy-protection. They don't prevent copying. They just make it harder to try to use a program that's been (illegally) copied. Serials are one aspect of the broader category of DRM (digital rights management), which also includes things like copy-protection and online registrations. HG has no copy-protection. It does have DRM.

@Yurg: The beta patch will partially work on existing saved games. You'll get the benefit of the reduced strength on enemies, and the changes to DJ's (the next time the day changes in your game), and the camera view. But the changes to merc costs, starting gear, etc. requires a restart.

Ok, so far i found one bug in the new patch, well actually it is a half fix to an old bug.  Before the patch shotgun bullet ammunition was actually buckshot and buckshot was actually bullet.  It looks as if the bullet being buckshot was fixed so it is actually bullet, but unfortunately the buckshot being a bullet was not fixed.  So now there is no real Buckshot for shotguns.  Other than that, so far the patch looks great, I was able to do the safari mission without any reloads, let alone the 20 or so I needed before the patch.

I have a simillar problem. When i dismiss a MERC the gear he had disappears! Ithink there should be an option of were you want him to leave his gear. I m also encountering frequent crashes to desktop. i am using Vista now and it didn't crash on my other pc wit XP.

GODSPEED7 -> RE: Hired Guns v1.07.001 Public Beta Now Available! (12/12/2008 3:26:58 AM)

I've been using the patch with no issue to report, the changes are perfect!

@CowGod:

I doubt the problem is Vista.. I am using Vista Home Premium x64.. do you have SP1?

I hear you on the O and 0, it is a pain in the butt if they do not mark the 0 properly.

I see there is now another way to get the file. Thanks for that. I do have a question though, why have an update button on the load screen if it does not do updates? Or is it only because this is still in beta that the patch doesn't make it to the update button?

Yes, it is not covering beta patches. We do want people to absolutely realize that the beta patches are beta versions. Hence also the need to register in order to get access to them.
The official patches are covered by the upgrade tool. You can simply install them over the beta patch too.

FYI, the Members Club issue should be fixed now as well.

Shin -> RE: Hired Guns v1.07.001 Public Beta Now Available! (12/13/2008 5:44:45 AM)

This beta patch has made the game for me, it took care of all the major issues. :)

zonks32 -> RE: Hired Guns v1.07.001 Public Beta Now Available! (12/13/2008 3:20:01 PM)

Patch accessed, downloaded and installed without a hitch.

khessmd -> RE: Hired Guns v1.07.001 Public Beta Now Available! (12/14/2008 11:54:20 AM)

I have a problem to report. Ever since I installed the patch the game crashes to desktop quite often. This will usually happen after reloading a saved game but sometimes it will just crash after taking a shot with a weapon or doing some other task.

Downloaded the beta patch a couple hours ago with no problems... However there were two downloads available, the patch and a 250+ MB "press copy" of Hired Guns (?)
