I was reading Bloody Shambles last night. Everytime I see one of these Martins I shudder a little. Biggest **** job in the Pacific. [X(]

I take it you have never seen this plane?(Used by China and Russia). In fact, China flew photo missions over Japan with it and dropped leaflets!

Ye olde TB-3, Ivan the Terrible's favorite heavy bomber!

Note the insane forward gunner position completely exposed at the very front tip. I didn't know China managed to heave one of these things over Japan..

I was referring less to the planes themselves, though, than to the life expectancy of the crewman. According to Bloody Shambles it seems like every time 3 of those Martins made it in to the air, 2 of them wouldn't come back (except in wreckage form).

It's almost as if there was an undeclared competition between countries in the interwar years to create the most butt-ugly bomber. Some of the British and French attempts are particularly hideous.

And let us not forget that sleek and nimble fighter called the Defiant.

If anyone ever has any doubt about the perspicacity of the pre-war Army Air boards, just take a look at that beast. They should have nicknamed it the Bulldog.

you know, as odd as it may sound those little Martins actully beat up one of the Japanese CVLs in my early war campaign.  Even one of the TVLs got a trop into it!
