brak -> nvidia quadro (12/11/2008 7:08:02 PM)

My laptop has an NVIDIA Quadro NVS 120M GPU. Ever since I installed the patch, HG has been crashing, and the last time it froze up to the point where it locked up my system. It was acting up before the patch, but I had turned off all of the video extras to allow it to run at 1920x1200 (my system's native resolution). The patch turned these back on, and I left them on this time.

I tried adjusting the nvidia control panel toward performance, but don't know what else to tweak to try to make this thing work better. My next steps are to kill all of the video extras (the treetops that don't work aren't as annoying when they don't have shadows, anyway), then to try various resolutions to see if any of them don't look like total crap.

Does anyone have any other suggestions, particular some that would help me keep the high resolution?

Please post a DxDiag file for us to look over.

I think my DxDiag is attached. Thanks for taking the time to look at it.

I tried turning off all of the video extras, but it turns out that you need textures or the lines on global map aren't visible. That was freaky.

Yep, the Quadro series are not typical video cards and I can't say I've seen a mobile version before. I'm guessing drivers are the first thing we should check here since non-gaming cards tend to often be behind on gaming support. Of course, with mobile versions driver support can get even more tricky.

Your video drivers are currently from 2007 and your sound drivers are from 2006. I would first look for updates to those. If you can't find an official video driver update, look at laptopvideo2go.com to see if you can get one there. My first guess would be that a driver update combined with tweaking settings could resolve this.

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks for the link, but the newer driver was (really) unstable on my system.  It would lock up after a couple of minutes or whenever I tried to test it with dxdiag.  So I'll just have to make do with the lower resolutions.  Thanks for your time on this one.
