ORIGINAL: Jeffrey H. Since when has it been cool ? Never. That's the irony in it. Might I ask what made you loathe something that you once enjoyed? Was it the changing rules? Elitist DM's with a god-like persona? The general mainstream that developed or something else? Just curious. I haven't played in many years myself; wife, family, job...etc. but still have a fondness for such a distinct game. Heck, it was actually a stepping stone in my case when another gamer introduced me to wargames. The rest was history (pun intended) mo reb I think I just grew up and out of it. In general I was always very put off by the personalities of the people who seemed to devote their lives to it and for a time, it completely displaced all other forms of gaming. Later I noticed that all the youth coming into the hobby were exclusively in D&D, (or some other Elfie Welfie spinoff) which choked off the more serious end that I was on. Then came the negative social stigma, which still exists, which tainted almost all of the hobby. This was before DOOM of course which spread the misery of stigma around a bit. But you can still admit you played DOOM in a typical adult setting but you really have to be careful about saying anything related to D&D. Especially at work. I feel much the same way about current 'mass market' PC games and consoles.
