Orzel Bialy -> Flavion-Death of the 1st DCR (4/28/2002 3:26:42 AM)

Just a little side trip from the Tarawa scene...have to take a small break now and then. :)
I tried making this scenario once before, with the French tanks manned and it was OK...though the Germans took far more losses than historically.
Then the other night I was messing about with the feature of having abandoned AFV's in place at the start of the Scenario...thanks to RH for the tip on how to do that! :D
Anyway, I tried it out and found that the abandoned French AFV's didn't show up when playing the German side...only their crews. Since that was no challenge I decided to take it for a spin from the French side. I was surprised that it worked fairly well...at least it did to me. :)
Anyway, just to "clean out the attic" here is "Flavion".
It takes up slot 219 in the Map folder and slot 191 in the Scen folder, so make sure those are open if you download this...if not re-arrange things to accomodate your needs.
If anyone out there can improve on it...or give suggestions on what I can do to fix the German/Human Player issue, post them.

******Remember to switch Human Player to France********

Thanks, will try it as soon as possible.

Definitely fun! The german doesn't have much of a chance, though. Lost 2 soft vehicles, 1 apc and 29 men...the german 197 men and 42 tanks...
Guess that's not exactly the historical outcome? :D

I think the french tanks in the lower left corner are too far away to be effected by the surprise attack. Gives you tons of time to set up ambushes along the roads. Nevertheless...very nice scen!

sorry,.I forgot mentioning that. I just told the basic procedure.
Yes..the AI donīt takes notice of aboandoned vehicles and that goes also for the human player. Reason is that the game does not handle abandoned units and cres separately.

Best is to delete the crews and then set the "visible" flag in Freds WaWEditor. Did you try this Editor already?

It just depends upon, what you try to simulate with abandoned units! Maybe another solution, would be to remove the "abandoned" units Ammo and movement allowance ("D"-key screen in Editor) so it becomes just an immobile and defenseless vehicle taht must be shot up normally.

More complicated solution would be to go with the "9"-key abandoned units (savegames edited) as mentioned initially and the make the abanadoned tanks/units visible/destroyable with the "explosion" unit.

RH and Chris,

Thanks again for the input. I threw this one out there just to see if others thought it was an interesting topic. If there was interest then I was planning on working on it a bit more.
You're right about the Char B1's being too far back. I have already begun re-arranging this so that there will be a few of the units up towards the front of the attack...and therefore not nearly as much time to step up a defense.
I am also working on the scoring of vitory hexes and immobilizing or taking away some of the ammo of the French tanks to counter their effectiveness.
The issue there is making the battle more in tune with what happened historically, yet leave open the door that a draw might be still possible if the human player plays his cards right and has a bit of luck! ;)
Anyway, glad it has provided a fun alternative. Gives me something to work on when I need to take a break from the Tarawa campaign. :)
