scimitar -> What are the games you play since years and years? (4/28/2002 1:12:58 PM)

Do you have some games since years and years that you're not tired to play with (old games, but also recent ones you think you'll still continue to play with for a long time)?
Here's my list:

Softwares:

- Empire Deluxe for Windows (I liked also the original Empire on my Amiga...); still playing PBEM with friends
- Flight Commander II (also playing PBEM)
- Warlords III
- Alpha Centauri
- Steel Panthers World at War
- Magic: The Gathering

Boardgames (wargames and others):

- Napoleon's Last Battles
- Airforce/Dauntless
- Charge! (old Belgian game)
- Formula Dice
- Blood Bowl
- Warhammer 40K

Marc von Martial -> (4/28/2002 7:28:53 PM)

- Close Combat
- Civilization
- Colonization
- Halflife (Action mod)
- European Air War (once in a while)

No more board games since opponents in Germany are very limited. But used to play ASL a bit.

I see you play Blood Bowl, LOL, I played that once with a friend of mine. **** that was fun.

Nixuebrig -> (4/28/2002 8:16:01 PM)

Fallout 2 and Shogun: Total War. Oh yeah, and SPWAW, of course. They are all strangely addicitive to me, especially Fallout 2.

At the time before SP I would play Perfect General. My friend and I thought this was the ultimate in computer wargames. We didn't have the patience to set up counters for board games. We would also play Sea Battles and Utopia on Mattel's Intelivision. Now its
strickly SPWAW and soon to be CL.

Les_the_Sarge_9_1 -> (4/30/2002 12:22:42 AM)

I can say that nothing on the computer can compete with Civilization (in its various incarnations) for actual time wasted playing other than Steel Panthers.

I have played Civ, Civ2, Civ3, Call To Power2 (Civ by another name is still Civ), Alpha Centauri (still Civ really).
Its the best example of a game that refuses to go away and always gets better.

I also love playing Heroes of Might and Magic. I have heroes 4 currently. Any wargamer would enjoy this game to some extent. A great turn based design. Basically what WW2 would be like with magic, demons, and other monsters thrown in heheh.

I have played a few other wargames, but never reeeeally got hooked on them like Steel Panthers.

Board games well thats diferent.

I am first and last, totally obsessed with ASL (I own enough Stuff with ASL written on it to establish that I am figgin crazy).
Then there is Panzerblitz and its offspring.
Third Reich and its offspring.
Supremacy (and its add ons).
Axis n Allies (stupidly simple, but ruthlessly fair to all sides).
Fotress Europa and Russian Campaign (similar designs).
Russian Front (a gorgeous design).
The Longest Day (ok so I play it solitaire who cares).

I also own like a bajillion other titles, but any real wargamer has done this.

rawink -> (4/30/2002 2:36:20 AM)

worn out multiple CD's of Steel Panthers 2, and Steel Panthers 3

the Great naval battles series until my system became too high tech to play those oldies anymore :(

Civilization.. all of them

SPWAW oh yeah baby, ultimate cure for excess time.

World War II Online.. nightly

Pacifc War.. still kicks my ***.

when UV hits, I will probably lose my job!

never did the board games much, but I did minature gaming. for WWIII rules sets. was fun

did Warhammer Epic series. I STILL have an awesome Epic army, and I havent played in 10 years.

rbrunsman -> (4/30/2002 3:02:38 AM)

Does anyone remember "The Perfect General?"

I loved that game. It was turn based and you either played Offense or Defense, red or blue. I played that one alot until Panzer General came out and then Civilization II. I saw alot of sunrises with that one while I was at school. I also like the Heroes of Might and Magic series.

rawink -> (4/30/2002 4:54:49 AM)

I had the perfect general.

it made it very much a tactics game since all of the units were identical on either side.

Been playing seven years straight. :)

Worr, out

KG Erwin -> Older games on the HD (5/1/2002 3:57:30 AM)

On the wargame side, I still have Battleground Gettysburg, since I have yet to see a better series of ACW games. I bought the collector's edition with Bull Run, Shiloh, Antietam and Gettysburg. I also have the freeware version of Out of the Park 2, a great baseball sim now available on the Underdogs site. This is one of the top-rated baseball games in existence, and I'd recommend getting it.

brent_2 -> (5/1/2002 10:28:54 AM)

Close combat
Shogun
Harpoon II

EricR4B -> These threads are so easy to respond to.. (5/1/2002 4:14:33 PM)

So here goes..

Still playing plenty of classic board games;

Monopoly (in fact I have a sad but true collection as I like to pick up the monopoly game for each city I visit if I can find one).
Scrabble
Chess
Backgammon
And of course Risk;

To name but a few.

For parties it can be fun to play Kerplunk!;
Or Taboo.

On the PC disk are;

CC 2, 3, 4 and 5 (easy to get into)
Combat Mission (good game, but takes forever)
Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 with expansion packs (great fun)
Icewind Dale
Thief 2 (play in the dark if you dare)
Deus Ex (started, but now the thrill has worn off slightly)
Shogun: Total War; Warlords Edition (highly recommended)
Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings; with Conquerors expansion (can't go wrong with this one)

That's about it

Only wish I could spend more time playing on-line.

Eric

Rick Borovec -> (5/4/2002 7:05:55 AM)

Ahh, Perfect General, now that was a fun two person game. Then they came out with PGII about the same time that SP came out and I never looked back. Steel Panthers has been it ever since. Have tried:
Close Combat 1, 2, 3
West Front/East Front
Combat Mission
plus a few others

Nothing has been as fun or interesting as watching the Steel Panthers evolution. Can't wait for the next generation, Combat Leader.

Boro

shall9 -> (5/4/2002 11:29:35 PM)

Still play Alpha Centauri all the time. Love playing Diablo II just for the simplicity it brings to life; if it moves... kill it :)
SPWAW and Age of Rifles occupy large amounts of time though I rarely play games out. Once I find out if my main strategy is a success/failure I'm done.

Don't have the room/time for boardgames anymore but I used to spend hours just setting up Squad Leader and it's followup titles just to explore various defensive/offensive setups.

von Murrin -> Ahhh lessee... (5/10/2002 12:06:30 PM)

PC games (most time spent, top to bottom):

No Greater Glory
PacWar
ACW Battleground Series
Great Naval Battles Series
ACW: FSTA
Combat Mission
EU II
Clash of Steel
SMG
SMA
Close Combat 2
Steel Panthers
Steel Panthers 2
European Air War
Civ 2
SMAC

I have literally hundreds of other titles, but these were the most played.

Board Games (most played top to bottom):

Flat Top
Pacific War (Victory Games)
Gettysburg (AH, 1977 Easily the best ever made by anyone)
Gettysburg (AH, 1988)
Great Campaigns of the ACW Series
The Longest Day
World in Flames
A3R/RS
Tokyo Express
Midway
SL
ASL

And again about 100 more I didn't play so much.

So does this make me a gamer, grog, or dork? :p :D
