I see you are interested in Byzantium. Did you read Alexiad by Anna Comnena?

No I haven't, I take it that it's one you can recommend?

Yes.
"Within the Alexiad, she describes the political and military history of the Byzantine Empire during the reign of her father (1081-1118), making it one of the most important sources of information on the Byzantium of the High Middle Ages. As well as this, within the Alexiad, the First Crusade's interaction with the Byzantine Empire is documented (despite being written nearly fifty years after the crusade), which highlights the conflicting perceptions of the East and West in the early 12th century."

It is somewhere in this page, along with few more historical sources:

Speaking only for myself, but I built a library to put all my history and reference books in. I've got all my Civil War and World War books on a set of six shelves 8' x 8' in dimension, and a larger set for our other books.

For Christmas I got:

So Sad to Fall in Battle by Kumiko Kakehashi
One Continuous Fight by Wittenberg, Petruzzi and Nugent

A lot of books some of you others have gotten sound really interesting; I may order a few of them myself to add to my collection...

Senso - the Japanese remember the Pacific War by Gibney

Japanese Cruisers of the Pacific War by LaCroix and Wells

The book on cruisers looks like a great reference. Hm, coming up for AE: "Medium ship, big war"?

Cruisers book is a great reference book. I only wish we had more books like that for other classes! Got that one last year for Christmas, I think.

crsutton -> RE: What did you get for Christmas??? (12/29/2008 4:03:15 AM)

A dozen "Girls gone Wild" videos. Some hosebag got ahold of my credit card number and went "wild" if you get my drift. Funny thing is the moron was such a total loser that he sent the videos to my address rather than his own. And he/she did not order anything else except a few itunes. Must have been a kid.

Now that it is all fixed with the credit card company, the fine folks at GGW are insisting that I return all of the videos. Hmmmmmm......should I?

24 hours of that movie on TNT is a great way to spend Christmas!

And I surely hope not! That would be something that would be damaging to my WitP career!

Nice, I just readed the free source on the website.

About another book I ve got for Christmas I have read:
The Grim Reapers at work in the Pacific Theater (3rd Attack Group 5th USAAF) by John P. Henebry
- Not as good as Pappy Gunn by Nathaniel Gunn in writings, but interesting in photos, maps and pictures.

This well known photo is also in the book with statement:
Third Attack Group A-20G skip bombing freighter near New Guinea, actually hitting the mast of the ship, which caused the pilot to ditch the plane.
Gunner was KIA, but pilot floated in his life vest through the night until finally recovered at daybreak.
