I just received subject game for Christmas and my system is Windows Vista 32 Bit and I would like to know if this game will run on Vista since the box says Windows 2000 and XP. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who knows the answer. Thanks.

Dale,
While FOF was produced before Vista, we have not yet heard of someone being unable to run the game with Vista, and know that there are people who do play the game on Vista (as the thread Challerain linked to shows). So there shouldn't be a problem.

Phatguy -> RE: Forge of Freedom The American Civil War 1861-1865 (12/29/2008 3:46:45 AM)

I have 32 bit Vista and FoF chugs along as well as on my old xp

Welcome to the Matrix Games Forums, hdaleb.

Forge of Freedom runs fine on my 32 bit Vista PC.

And when you get it going, a feast awaits. A great game...one of the best from Matrix and WCS.

I have Vista 32 and it runs without a hitch.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Forge of Freedom The American Civil War 1861-1865 (12/29/2008 10:18:31 PM)

It works fine on Vista, the specs need updating apparently.

Does the install still display that warning message about you having the wrong O/S? Or have you taken that out of the game files? Your games all run fine on XP64 (and apparently Vista) so I'd get that code out of there and not just change your tech specs. The message is very disconcerting even though the game installs anyway if you click through it.

Erik Rutins -> RE: Forge of Freedom The American Civil War 1861-1865 (1/8/2009 5:27:52 PM)

The message is intentional for Operating Systems that are not "officially supported" which does include XP64, but it should not be showing up for Vista in this case.

grahamergb -> RE: Forge of Freedom The American Civil War 1861-1865 (8/13/2009 12:55:27 PM)

Hi Erik

I have Vista 64-bit Home Premium and get an error when FOF starts:

Forge of Freedom.exe
i386/chkesp.c Line 42 -
Value of ESP not properly saved across a function call.

Anybody any ideas? Some people say it works fine on Vista and one guys says its OK on Vista 64-bit. Any ideas? Don't want to look for a refund. FOF looks great.

Cheers

Grahame

I have this on my system. 64 bit install of Vista. Patched, and I run everything as administrator. Runs fine. Same with most of the wargames I have really had to work to get Cossacks 2 to work though. Even Steel Panthers works

Erik Rutins -> RE: Forge of Freedom The American Civil War 1861-1865 (8/13/2009 11:16:48 PM)

Hi guys, we will be re-testing this on our Vista 64bit test system, but from what I recall it worked on that in the past. Tried to get to it today, but too many other priorities got in the way.

Grahame, suggestions for you while you wait - update video and audio drivers and make sure Macromedia Flash Player is installed.

milkweg -> RE: Forge of Freedom The American Civil War 1861-1865 (8/14/2009 12:26:01 AM)

I've ran it on Vistax64 with no issues and currently have it installed to Win7x64 RC with no issues. Funnily enough the only OS I had issues with it on was Win2K and I was told it was developed on Win2K. My Win2K OS has no internet access and probably needs some files updated to run it properly. One thing I learned was that you must have Adobe Flash installed for FoF to run because that is what they used for the menu screen.

V22 Osprey -> RE: Forge of Freedom The American Civil War 1861-1865 (8/14/2009 1:36:46 AM)

To me, there's probably a million factors that determine wther a game runs on Vista or not.Like the Video card, drivers, other programs, antivirus, etc....the reason why some people can run games on Vista and some can't could be for a number of reasons.

I have just received FoF (excellent delivery service!!!) and it installed and runs perfectly on Vista.

First reaction is ... What a game!!!!! It'll keep me busy for years ...
I have the Civil War books ...  and now I have THE  game!!!

This limey will be immersed in American history for the rest of his life.

It looks to be a great game. Thank you!! Now off to get to grips with it ... I will return with questions, I'm sure ...

SlickWilhelm -> RE: Forge of Freedom The American Civil War 1861-1865 (11/17/2009 9:29:49 PM)

Congrats on a great purchase, joker. Stop by the FoF forum down below and say hello. There has been a recent upswing of people playing this for the first time(myself included), and so it's pretty easy to get answers to your questions. Make sure you have the e-book pdf handy, though. It takes awhile to get a grasp on how to play FoF. But the time spent learning it will be rewarded in spades. [:)]

Thanks! But I hope this won't really keep you busy for years, because this probably won't be our last ACW release. (Not if I have anything to say about it!)

You just bought the best turn based pc civil war game ever made imho. I know you will enjoy it as it's very popular with most gamers who like civil war games.
