Wasn't sure if it was entirely appropriate to post this here, but I found no place more fitting, so here goes -

I'd love to see a comprehensive list of all the available or soon-to-be available options out there for realistic and customizable football simulation on the PC-platform (preferably graphics-based, although some of the txt sims are starting to look somewhat tempting to me).

At one time, this game appeared to be the ultimate solution to those seeking such a game. No longer do I believe this. So, I greatly wish to know all my options going forward. I'm betting I'm not the only one.

I've heard tell of "Backbreaker", the mods done for Madden, a few others, but what else we got? This is the only football game-related forum I'm familiar with, and it certainly seems there are the people on here who could compile such a list...or perhaps supply a link or two. Just a simple request. I've done research, but I want to make sure I've missed nothing, and I'd also like to hear opinions on the quality of existing games and, especially, the potential for those games slated for future release.

That does look nice! But I have to admit I've come addicted to actually watching the game play and don't know if I could handle just play-by-play commentary. My dream is still Maximum-Football with Madden graphics. [:)]

hack153 -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/7/2009 12:57:14 PM)

it does look really good.

bbmike -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/7/2009 1:14:20 PM)

There's a demo. Maybe someone could volunteer to try it and give us a review? [sm=terms.gif]

garysorrell -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/7/2009 3:40:24 PM)

If you could tack SECOND AND ten onto the Max graphic engine, I would be ecstatic.

I tried the SAT demo, it really is a nice game. Not sure of whether it generates rookies and retires players. You can draft a league, but beyond that I cant say.
Not sure how deep the career mode is.
Their forums are the old Delphi style...I hate those, so I havent browsed for info yet.

Second and Ten looks clean, has nice high-contrast screens, and has professional looking reports.

Mrgravyard50 -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/7/2009 10:14:56 PM)

Anyone wanting to try Fb Pro 98 again go to this site, they have made new plays that seem to work good.

That is a penny more than the list price for Maximum Football, and pretty much the same reaction to the price as many potential purchasers.

I agree that it's too bad that Maximum Football doesn't have those type of reports.  Perhaps JD can get to work on it.

garysorrell -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/8/2009 1:08:45 AM)

I wouldnt rule out buying SAT, but man, it wont be anytime soon.
I waited a year now for Sins Of a Solar Empire to drop. Hard for me to drop that on a PC game.

And yea, MaxFB should have been cheaper.

regenerator -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/9/2009 4:36:59 PM)

Wow guys thanks for all the replies!  I was actually a little scared/embarrassed about posting this, and  almost immediately after posting began preparing to withstand being bashed for posting something that might be deemed inappropriate by some.

Thanks again - shows what a tight-knit community of dedicated fans of the genre and just general good group of folks we have on here, even if the numbers have dwindled.

Tim - looks like to me you guys are def offering the best potential product out there. I'm sure everyone asks you this question in every different kind of way, but I can't resist - is it at all realistic to expect a release before 2010? Or is there no safe way to even predict that far?

Anyway, thanks for the reply. The manifesto looks great.

That's a great site with some nice playbooks. Ive been somewhat disappointed with Maximum football since the last patch so I'm willing to move back. I once had fbpro 97 and enjoyed it for a while until moving on to madden. The Fbpro community has been around for 10 years so you have playbooks and utilities that are well tested.

Its a shame that Vivendi, who owns the source code for the series, will not allow any programmers to update it.

I don't think even the original Front Page Sports Football programmers could figure out the souce code anymore.

bneil -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/13/2009 4:21:14 AM)

Second and Ten maybe expensive however, minor and major updates have been free to this point. Well worth the money in my opinion.

Sytass -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/20/2009 4:35:50 PM)

I tried the demo of SAT and while I like the gameplay (and the fact that it has free rosters back till the 1940s), but it seems that it's mostly a match simulator, and offers very little in terms of "dynasty building" or General Manager mode.

While next to every baseball game lets you play from the early 1900s through to the modern day in dynasty mode it seems near impossible to find something similar for football (i.e. start in the 60s or 70s and play through till today with franchise changes, historical rookies/drafts etc.).

Mrgravyard50 -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/20/2009 6:23:36 PM)

By chance, did anyone make rosters for Fb Pro 99?

Tbird -> RE: Available PC Football Games (1/23/2009 4:10:02 AM)

50 bucks is way too much for a text sim atleast for me

I tried getting into text sims but it's hard even one with a ton of options you still have that empty feeling because you can't really see the action unfold before your eyes as it happens.

I agree.

There are things that text sims do well that I would have hoped that other PC games would do like front office management, keeping detailed statistics, and having easy output of those statistics, but not having the game on screen just isn't the same as seeing the game on field for that sense of suspended disbelief.
